These problems can stem from issues with applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. This can be remedied by installing the appropriate update(s): * Dual Core Optimizer for AMD processors. (note: This runs as a startup item called "amd_dc_opt". Make sure this is enabled in the System Configuration Utility.

If this occurs often, verify your sync cables or try changing the HW Buffer Size setting in the Playback Engine dialog. In most cases, a larger HW buffer size will prevent the problem. -9171 (or -9172)" Initial troubleshooting steps: Upgrade to Pro Tools 10.3.7 or higher and Mac OS X 10.8.4. The session has some native plug-ins and 'Video out FireWire' is checked in the options menu. Make sure the H/W buffer setting in Setup>Playback Engine is at least 512 samples. Attempting to output video through a FireWire device (such as an Avid Mojo) can cause these errors if the buffer setting is below 512.
