Because i have none external programmingequipmenti needed to programmer is not responding arduino use my Arduino ... 1 Step 1: Uploading the ArduinoISP sketchNow open the latest version of the Arduino IDE (currently 0022) . And you will get this error: "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): ...Step 3: Finally uploading the programs to your new arduino When your arduino is not set up whit auto-reset (DTR) you will have difficulties uploading new programs to the arduino. And you will get this error: "avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51 " This means the arduino IDE could not reset the arduino and so the upload has failed. To fix this you can try (depends on hardware etc...) : 1. Press reset button on your arduino when "Binary sketch size: xxxx bytes (of a xxxxxxx byte maximum)" appears. 2. If that does not work you can try to put the usb cable in the computer but not in the arduino. When the "binary sketch" stuff appears you quickly put the usb cable in the arduino and see if it uploadswithoutand error. 3. If that still doesn't work you can

If I use some jumper cables to wire the pins to match the ArduinoISP example, it all works fine, meaning the wiring on the actual board is OK, however, I want to be able to just plug my board I protocol error expect have made straight in, and thus need to get the bootloader burning and the uploading to work via pins 8, 9, 10 and 11 instead. I have tried modifying the example myself by replacing the references to RESET, MOSI, MISO and SCK with my own pin numbers, but this doesn't seem to suffice. When I try to burn the bootloader now, I get the following error: avrdude: stk500_program_enable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x50 avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1 Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override this check. avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51 If I try to upload a sketch using my version which has the custom pin numbers, I get this error: avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00 The wiring of my programmer is the same as can be found here: http://highlowtech.org/?p=1706 except I want the programmer sketch to work with different pins. Thanks bootloader isp attiny share|improve this question asked Apr 17 '14 at 20:33 rastating 183 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted You can't change the pins. ArduinoISP uses the SPI interface on pins 10-13 which is provided by the underlying AVR hardware. share|improve this answer answered Apr 17 '14 at 20:48 Craig 1,06526 OK, thanks for the answer :) –rastating Apr 17 '14 at 20:58 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote As a practical matter, you're much better off correcting things so you're using the original pins, which correspond

Could someone help me please? I will explain everything I tried in detail so this will be LONG... (Keep in mind that I'm new to microcontrollers, I don't have any AVR programmer, all I have is arduino) 1)I googled for hours to find a solution before posting this 2)I'm completely sure the chip is atmega328p-pu, I bought it from a local store which is a Farnell distributor (this is the chip I bought ) so it should be with default settings which means I need to burn the arduino bootloader 3)I use arduino IDE v1.0.1 4)I've set Tools>Programmer>Arduino as ISP and Tools>Board>Arduino Uno 5)I tripple checked all the connections everytime I changed something Here is what I've tried so far: 1)Upload the ArduinoISP sketch, connected the Arduino like this + 10uF capacitor connected to reset and ground, the crystal is 16MHz (I also didn't have 10k resistor so I used two 5.1k in series) and I was getting "invalid device signature" error 2)I connected AREF (pin 21 on the chip) to the VCC (5V), still same error 3)I powered the chip with external power supply at 5V, but without common ground with the arduino, at first I got "invalid device signature", I tried to burn the bootloader again and then this error occured: avrdude: stk500_program_enable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x50 avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1 Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override this check. avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51 4)I read somewhere that the capacitor is not needed so I removed it and tried again aand same as before, at first try "invalid device signature"
