To fix this you can try (depends on hardware etc...) : 1. Press reset button on your arduino when "Binary sketch size: xxxx bytes (of a xxxxxxx byte maximum)" appears. 2. If that does not work you can try to put the usb cable in the computer but not in the arduino. When the "binary sketch" stuff appears you quickly put the usb cable in the arduino and see if it uploadswithoutand error. 3. If that still doesn't work you can try to hold the reset button on the arduino , press upload in the arduino IDE and release the reset button when the "binary sketch size ... " stuff appears. 4. If that still doesn't work you can try to press reset after the " binary sketch size ... " and hod it for 2-10 seconds ( it depends on hardware how long you need to hold it) 5. If that still doesn't work you can try to bootload it again and see if it was an error in the primary bootloading. 6.If that still doesn't work you can try to use ur other arduino ( if you have another) to program the second arduino This link for more info:http://www.arduino.cc/en/Hacking/Programmer . 7. If that still doesn't work you can ask for help on the arduino.cc forum , maybe ur arduino microchip is dead ? or a fake

I am now getting the following error while trying to upload a new one. Code: Code: Select allavrdude: stk500_paged_write(): (a) protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x00

avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x00 Is this because of the serial port spamming, or is the board buggy? Is there a way to clear the flash memory without losing protocol error the bootloader? If not, how would you suggest that I handle the problem? The FTDI chip works normally with another board I have. dimkasta Posts: 14Joined: Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:21 pm Top by lehmanna » Tue Sep 29, 2009 10:37 pm You can simply use the Arduino environment to reprogram the bootloader. Just make sure you select the correct model before commencing. Do I need an ISP programmer? Any links? Thanks again dimkasta Posts: 14Joined: Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:21 pm Top by lehmanna » Wed Sep 30, 2009 12:07 am Yes, you'll need a programmer. You might want to give this one a shot. (Note the line on the page that says that some OS X and/or Linux users have had their problems with this device. In this case, you could try the USBtiny ISP or the AVR ISP mkII instead.) However, it's quite unprobable that you accidently destroyed the Arduino's bootloader. The bootloader is usually protected through the corresponding lock fuses of the ATmega. On the other hand, I have no explanation for your device's behaviour. discussing problems with uploading sketches to an arduino, but my problem was really basic: I had some wiring connected to digital ports 0 and 1 (TX and RX) and that was causing communication errors. I unplugged the wires to those ports and the upload then worked just fine.
