Nothing seems to work, not even a single proxy authentication popup window. The only proxy configuration working is within Firefox Edit> Preferences> Advanced> Network> Connection> Settings> Manual Proxy Configuration. Using gconf to manually set the proxy doesn't work Using Synaptic in previous Ubuntu versions was too simple. 11.10 networking package-management software-center proxy share|improve this question edited Nov 9 '11 at 17:46 Jorge Castro 24.6k91387589 asked Nov 9 '11 at 12:24 Augusto 81113 Trying install IcedTea: Failed to download repository information. I've already tried http://askubuntu.com/questions/489852/proxy-authentication-with-terminal-ubuntu-14-04 the following: Adding to /etc/apt/apt.conf, /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01proxy, /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01ubuntu: Acquire::http::proxy "http://name:password@proxy_server:port"; export http_proxy=http://name:password@proxy_server:port/ on a terminal. Adding export http_proxy=http://name:password@proxy_server:port/to /etc/bash.bashrc These were few of the major efforts. There are no spaces in my username nor are there any special characters in my password (especially "@"). I've double checked and all the information entered is correct. The info is correct because it works with the browser (Manual proxy in Network and authentication when first opened the browser). I've also tried by making the "p" in "proxy" into capitals but to avail. I always get the error: 407 Proxy Authentication Required. Any help is appreciated. networking command-line apt proxy authentication share|improve this question edited Jun 30 '14 at 7:46 muru 69.5k12127177 asked Jun 30 '14 at 6:33 user3079284 36113 Where do ntlmaps (or cntlm) come from? My Firefox and apt.conf proxies are the same. My 'procedure' is to open Firefox which then prompts me for my user ID and password to authenticate the proxy when I navigate to an external website. I can then apt-get update etc. with no errors. If I don't authenticate using Firefox first, I get 407 errors. share|improve this answer answered Feb 22 at 9:33 Richard Clinker 366 I tried, but its not wor
