Solved Outlook is unable to connect there is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate exchange 2013 to email.company.com (Error Code 18) Posted on 2012-12-13 Exchange Outlook 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 5,334 Views Last Modified: 2012-12-26 Users are now receiving the following error message: There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/923575 The security certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server mail.company.com. (Error Code 18) After an unexpected shutdown of our domain controller, users are now getting the above error message in Outlook. Even when the user enters his/her correct credentials, they are prompted again. Some users do not have the problem, a simple logoff and log back in resolved the issue. What I've noticed is that for the users https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27967349/Outlook-is-unable-to-connect-to-email-company-com-Error-Code-18.html that are having the problem, no CA is installed. Confirmed by going into IE > certificates > Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Why wouldn't the CA be accepted by some users, and not others? I would think I could access OWA on that users machine and install the CA, but the 'install certificate' option isn't available. Any thoughts? 0 Question by:Michael-Thomas Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 2 Best Solution byMichael-Thomas The Outlook prompt issue actually had nothing to do with the certificate. It turns out the users getting prompted were somehow getting directed to our Exchange 2003 server, which is still in the mix Go to Solution 7 Comments LVL 7 Overall: Level 7 Exchange 3 Outlook 2 Message Expert Comment by:tolinrome2012-12-13 Are the users who are having problems authenticated on the domain? I'm only saying this because the DC went down and since they may not have re-authenticated when it came back up they should reboot and see if the problem is solved. 0 LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Expert Comment by:Freefall962012-12-13 Have you tried placing the Root CA cert in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store for the computer object? Try it this way. 1. login as the administrator on the client PC 2. Start > Run > "mmc" 3. In the MMC goto File > Add/remove Snap-in 4. Select Certificates on the left side click Add

I have recently Transfered the FSMO roles, Upgraded the domain functional level ect to Server 2008R2 DC. This may be coinsidense but since doing it, my users have been getting an error when they Open outlook in the morning, "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The security certificate is not the proxy server from a certifying authority. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server ****.****.com. (Error Code 18)." If i change the settings in outlook by unticking "Connect to Exchange over HTTP" then the problem obviously goes away, yet OWA is still completely usable? If so is it still valid or has it expired? 0 LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Author Comment by:xObIA2013-07-10 I don't know what certificate is being used or what type it is. 0 LVL 6 Overall: Level 6 Windows Server 2008 2 Outlook 2 Windows Server 2003 1 Message Expert Comment by:vmdude2013-07-10 I think we need to know this information to help troubleshoot.
