The security certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server mail.company.com. (Error Code 18) After an unexpected shutdown of https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27967349/Outlook-is-unable-to-connect-to-email-company-com-Error-Code-18.html our domain controller, users are now getting the above error message in Outlook. Even when the user enters his/her correct credentials, they are prompted again. Some users do not have the problem, a simple logoff and log back in resolved the issue. What I've noticed is that for the users that are having the problem, no CA is installed. Confirmed by going into IE > certificates > Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Why wouldn't the CA be accepted by some users, and not others? I would think I could access OWA on that users machine and install the CA, but the 'install certificate' option isn't available. Any thoughts? 0 Question by:Michael-Thomas Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 2 Best Solution byMichael-Thomas The Outlook prompt issue actually had nothing to do with the certificate. It turns out the users getting prompted were somehow getting directed to our Exchange 2003 server, which is still in the mix Go to Solution 7 Comments LVL 7 Overall: Level 7 Exchange 3 Outlook 2 Message Expert Comment by:tolinrome2012-12-13 Are the users who are having problems authenticated on the domain?

Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Good morning all, I was just notified by a user this morning (my boss) that she is unable to connect to Outlook on our Terminal Server. She is the only user with this issue. She is using Outlook 2010 and uses this Terminal Server very frequently. The error reads: There is a problem with the proxy servers's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site [server.domain.com]. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 0). We don't use a proxy server, nor is there any certificate that I'm aware of. Exchange isn't my strong point, so I was hoping you guys could help point me in the right direction! In the meantime, guess I'll call my buddy Google. Thanks Reply Subscribe RELATED TOPICS: Outlook 2010 Proxy Server security certficate Proxy Server? Proxy server   4 Replies Jalapeno OP gfxrelay Jan 25, 2014 at 4:52 UTC Hi, what version of Exchange are you using? 0 Jalapeno OP Helpful Post gfxrelay Jan 25, 2014 at 5:01 UTC Ooh almost forgot about this issue. We had it a while ago. Outlook tries to connect to Exchange over https, but this normally happens if the name on the certificate does not match the name of the exchange server you are trying to connect to. We found that you either have to regenerate the the certificate that exchange uses and include all the required names or you have to change the settings in outlook to only connect over http. The last mentioned option is less secure, but a lot easier to do. 2 Serrano OP CFonseca Jan 27, 2014 at 3:14 UTC Thank you for the suggestion. The issue seems to have corrected itself for the time being and I'm not quite sure what happened, but I will give that a try if it happens again. Thanks again! 0 Pimiento OP Mohammed8790 Oct 19, 2014 at 9:22 UTC 1st Post I found this KB article from Microsoft on this issue, worth to look at. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923575 0 This discussion has been inactive for over a year.
