Then it all started again, so i changed to Google DNS. After couple of months http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connectadvance.html that stopped working too. So i was swapping between OpenDNS, Google and Comodo. Few days ago all cease to work on PS3 (PC's are working fine). I tried WiFi connection, cable connection, automatic settings, manual settings. Nothing. Can't connect no matter what i do. I think my ISP is forcing his lame DNS, because I keep seeing them (i'm using router and setting DNS there as well). This is driving me nuts, I was planning to http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Network-Support/Solution-for-your-DNS-error-80710102-problems-Works-for-all-ISP/td-p/13605550/page/48 buy PS+ now, but it seems I won't be doing this for some time Report Message 471 of 604 (13,415 Views) Reply 0 Likes nobodyhasthisyet First Son Registered: 03/26/2013 Offline 1 posts 03-26-2013 04:21 AM User Info nobodyhasthisyet ADD AS A FRIEND Re: Solution for your DNS error (80710102) problems! I was having trouble getting Netflix to work on my PS3. It kept giving me an error message every time I tried to open the Netflix application. I tried many other troubleshoots, but this was the only solution that actually worked. Now I'm back to watching my shows on Netflix. Thanks again! Looking into it, the PS3 doesn't get an IP address and the router never shows it in it's list ps3 dhcp error of devices. I normally use a fixed IP and the router is configured to let traffic traverse unfettered to that IP.Changed it to use DNS to get it's IP, no joy. Back to fixed with a different IP to avoid the firewall rule, no joy. Switched to wireless, no joy either fixed or via DNS.Both boxes have been power cycled a couple times.Did my PS3 just catch a virus, or did it's hardware break, or is there something I'm not thinking of?Just remembered I have wireshark and it can snoop on my wireless traffic. I'll be firing that up, um, prolly saturday until I have time to mess with it again Frennzy "Live young. Die fast." When you have port forwarding setup, your router forwards ports to an ip address that you specify. Without setting up a static ip address port forwarding will probably work when you initially set it up, but after restarting your PS3 it may get a different ip address. When this happens the ports will no longer be forwarded to your PS3's ip address. So the port forwarding configuration will not work. What is an ip address? IP addresses are four sets of numbers separated by periods that allow computers to identify each other. Every computer has at least one ip address, and two devices should never have the same ip address. If they do, neither of them will be able to connect to the internet. There is a lot of information at the following link. You don't need all of it. But if you want to know more about how networks work, you'll find it there. For more information on ip addresses, subnets, and gateways go here Dynamic vs Static IPs Most routers assign dynamic IP addresses by default. They do this because dynamic ip address networks require no configuration. The end user can simply plug their computer or console in, and their network will work. When ip addresses are assigned dynamically, the router is the one that assigns them. Every time a computer or console reboots it asks the router for an ip address. The router then hands it an ip address that has not already been handed out to another computer or console. This is important to note. When you set your PS3 to a static ip address, the router does not know that the PS3 is using that ip address. So the very same ip address may be handed to another computer or console later, and that will prevent both devices from connecting to the internet. So when you asign a static IP addresses, it's important to assign an IP address that will not be hand
