turned my laptop on and saw this warning about hard disk, downloaded an HDD diagnostic (HD Tune Pro) and scanned my laptop. In the health tab, there were two errors: Raw read error rate: Current:
Raw Read Error Rate 1
100, Worst: 62, Threshold: 60, Data: 0, Status: Failed Current pending sectors: Current: 100, Worst, 100, Data: 8, Status: warning I also scanned it with Active@ Hard Disk Monitor, it too shows the Raw Error Rate a varying number from 90-100%, and there's a changing high Raw Value too, but estimates "Health Status" as "OK". So what? Out of work? Hmm? What should I do? I'm getting a backup of my raw read error rate fail files right now, what after that? What if I don't replace the HDD? The hard drive, HDD or SSD, it the most important part of our PC, containing irreplaceable data. Unfortunately, it is not raw read error rate western digital a matter of "If" a hard drive fails, but of "When". how to fix raw read error rate samsung Using CrystalDiskInfo we can predict if hard disk failure is imminent, and backup our files in time. The S.M.A.R.T. way to predict hard disk failure The worst thing about hard disk failure - apart from losing any file we didn't have a backup of - is that it will often come out of the https://www.pcsteps.com/2530-predict-hard-disk-failure-crystal-disk-info/ blue. Sometimes we might hear clicking sounds from the drive, or get file/folder related error messages. Most of the time, though, the drive will seem to work just fine, and we get a BSOD on the next reboot or a message like that... It's good then that there is a system that can statistically predict hard drive failure. Its name is Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T) and it is part of any hard drive that has been manufactured the past decade. The S.M.A.R.T protocol was developed by IBM, Seagate, Quantum, Conner, and Western Digital in 1995, based on an earlier system by IBM. It measures key characteristics of the HDD, such as the read error rate, reallocated sectors, seek error rate, etc. which can be used to predict hard disk failure. Unfortunately, even though there have been more than half a dozen of Windows versions since 1995, not one of them can read the S.M.A.R.T data, probably for licensing reasons. So, we need to use external software to monitor S.M.A.R.T and our hard drive's health.

Hello guys, thanks for watching this post. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/troubleshooting/55147-s-m-r-t-raw-read-error-rate-failed.html So I just wake up and the OS told me that the HD was having some issues. So http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f16/solved-data-provided-by-speccy-506763.html I did a Chkdsk on Windows.. and there was no problem. Then I booted Ubuntu and saw that SMART found a problem. And then I saw this. (Look at ID:01 - Raw Read Error Rate) Code: HD Tune: SAMSUNG HD502HJ Health ID Current Worst ThresholdData Status (01) Raw Read Error Rate 1 1 51 33031 Failed (02) Throughput Performance 252 252 0 0 Ok (03) Spin Up Time 83 80 25 read error 5238 Ok (04) Start/Stop Count 100 100 0 492 Ok (05) Reallocated Sector Count 252 252 10 0 Ok (07) Seek Error Rate 252 252 51 0 Ok (08) Seek Time Performance 252 252 15 0 Ok (09) Power On Hours Count 100 100 0 1556 Ok (0A) Spin Retry Count 252 252 51 0 Ok (0B) Calibration Retry Count 252 252 0 0 Ok (0C) Power Cycle Count 100 100 0 504 Ok (BF) G-sense Error Rate 100 100 0 1 Ok (C0) Power Off Retract Count 252 read error rate 252 0 0 Ok (C2) Temperature 64 56 0 917538 Ok (C3) Hardware ECC Recovered 100 100 0 0 Ok (C4) Reallocated Event Count 252 252 0 0 Ok (C5) Current Pending Sector 99 99 0 72 Ok (C6) Offline Uncorrectable 252 252 0 0 Ok (C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 100 100 0 1 Ok (C8) Write Error Rate 100 100 0 28 Ok (DF) Load/Unload Retry Count 252 252 0 0 Ok (E1) Load/Unload Cycle Count 100 100 0 507 Ok Power On Time : 1556 Health Status : Failed I googled some other SMART HD examples from other HDs and for Raw Read Error Rate, the "worst" value is between 100 or 200, something like that.. Why mine is 1? Maybe it's not that bad? Actually I'm on Windows right now, of course SMART is still telling me that there is a problem but i haven't lost any file.. I'm worried to not be able to boot in the future. Maybe its a problem from SMART? What do you recommend guys? Thanks for the patience. c ya #2 (permalink) June 30, 2012, 01:38 PM moocow Allstar Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Vancouver, BC Posts: 883 Back up all your stuff, wipe data and RMA the drive. Once SMART fails there's no point in thinking what the problem is as SMART is a self monitoring feature. I RMA drives that didn't trip SMART but still got crap load of bad sectors. #3 (permalink) July 1, 2012, 06:17 PM Zaqueo Rookie Join Date: Jun 2012 Posts: 4 Th
