I had seen posts on various message boards suggesting this to be read error a laser adjustment problem but while engaging in a such a process I noticed that the problem seemed to be much more simple in nature.,,The noise accompanying the use of a blue disc is a commonly reported symptom. One might attribute this to the lens assembly jockeying for a good read position. I noticed however that the noise would start IMMEDIATELY as soon as the ps2 blue disc tray would close. Thisoccured muchsooner than one would expect for the lens assembly to engage. It dawned on me that this noise might be due to disc slippage. To facilitate the lens test I was required to collect silver, black and blue backed discs along with a DVD so I already had a diverse collection of discs to work wirh. Moving ahead on my theory I tested the smoothness of the tops of all these discs and the top of the BLUE discs appeared to be more slippery. Both these games happened to come from EA Sports. I also noticed that the top disc clamp within the unit was only a hard white shiny plastic which certainly was not conducive to a good grip. The bottom clamp had a thin rubber coating but it seemed stupid not to also apply rubber to the top clamp. To quickly test my theory I applied two pieces of scotch tape onto the top of a BLUE disc. The strips were of same size near the center on opposite sides of the hole (for balance).Lo and behold upon starting There was NO NOISE when the tray

Re: PS2/Blue Disc Problem « Reply #1 on: April 11, 2005, 02:47:49 pm » Blue discs are CD based PS2 games as opposed to DVD based games (silver backed). The most probable cause of your problem is a problem with your PS2's laser. Either the laser is going bad/breaking, or the alignment is off. There are tutorials online on how to adjust the laser, although I've never done it personally. Alternatively, I've seen laser assemblies sell for $30-50 or so and you could just swap it out. It's possible that something else could be your problem, but this is the most likely cause.
