] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] Hi! I'm new to FreeBSD and I need some help! I have tried to install FreeBSD 4.11 and 5.3, but with both I wasn't successfull! I want to try how FreeBSD works so I have tried to a disk read error occurred fix install it on an older computer, maybe is this the cause, but I have read that a disk read error occurred windows 7 you can install it on an i484 with 16MB of RAM or similar. My system is: 100MHz AMD K5 1,7GB disc 48MB RAM 1MB

what happened: ###################### - with the 4.11 RELEASE:# ###################### 1.) First I have tried to boot from CDROM but the following happened: BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01 Console: internal video/keyboard int=0000000d ... eax=0000ffff ... esi=0000003d ... cs= f0000.... cs: eip= 00 00 00... ss: esp= ff ff ff... BTX halted (the upper lines were full of "00", "ff" and similar characters - I haven't transribed all the lines to the end) 2.) Next I have made the boot/installation disk read error windows 10 floppies. I put the first diskette(boot.flp) in the drive and I got this: BTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01 Console: internal video/keyboard BIOS drive A: is disk0 BIOS drive C: is disk1 BIOS 639kB/48128kB available memory FreeBSD/i386 bootstrap loader, Revison 0.8 (root at ....) /kernel text=0x289d91 data=0x301170+0x32d04 zf_read: fill error elf_loadexec:archsw.readim failed can't load module '/kernel': input/output error Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or any other key for command prompt. Booting [kernel] in X seconds... Hi a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart windows 7 When I try and start up my Windows XP I get this message "Disk read error occurred press Ctl+Alt =Del to restart. Every time I a disk read error occurred laptop restart I get the same message. Does anyone have any ideas about the steps I should take in an attempt to fix this problem. I have searched the forums but am a bit lost about some of the suggestions. Any https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2005-February/075596.html simply explained suugested solutions would be appreciated. That would be as easy as it comes. Hi Found the original Windows XP installation disk, turned the PC on, inserted the CD a number of times but all I get is the same message "Disk read error occurred press Ctl+Alt =Del to restart" Tried rebooting, installing CD, but only get the same message. That's a crusty and not thoroughly secure version, but this box is behind NAT and a firewall so is safe enough for now. Since I installed 5.3-RELEASE as a minimal base-only system specifically so as to install as much as possible from ports for upgradability, I hope that doesn't foul that up! - d.
