message during a crash, you're hoping the message will point toward the cause acer disk read error and then it can be appropriately rectified. This doesn't always happen though and the message can be rather generic a disc read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart and the fix isn't exactly a straightforward affair with a clear place to start troubleshooting.Unfortunately, there seems to be many errors you could encounter on your system that sound straightforward but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGz2gkAhn5o lead to the same problem, the error message isn't accurate enough for you to make a clear decision about what to do next. A while back I had a problem with my computer, and after some odd things happening such as a CD-R failing a burn and the computer starting to respond very slow, I decided to shut it down and leave it https://www.raymond.cc/blog/help-a-disk-read-error-occurred-press-ctrlaltdelete-to-restart/ for a while. When I booted it up the next day, I got the error message:A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. However, the BIOS detected the hard drive just fine. After an exhaustive search around the Internet and forums, no one had the exact fix for this problem and there doesn't seem to be one fix to try in preference to any others. What makes this even worse is there are so many different ways to attempt to fix this error, it could take days to get through them all. And to make matters worse, a disk read error might not actually mean there's a problem with the hard drive itself! Also there seems to be just as many software causes as hardware causes.Listed below are some of the possible solutions we came across to fix the "A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" problem.1. Test the MemoryThis isn't actually mentioned that much around the web as a solution to the disk read error problem, but believe it or not, this was my problem. I used a tool called Memtest86+ and ran tests on

When it rebooted it took me to a black screen and at the top there's a blue bar that say www.dell.com and below that "Loading PBR read error for descriptor 2...done.A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart" I'll restart and it'll do it again. I'm not sure what the issue is (I'm not very tech savy I just know the basics). Could you please help! All Replies Posted by osprey4 on 30 Apr 2009 18:49 Hi, tikichan: This error indicates a problem with the master boot record, or MBR. There disk read error is a chance your hard drive is going bad, or it may simply be a corruption of the MBR, which can be fixed. The first thing to do is run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive. In order to do this, you need to boot the computer to your Dell Resource CD. Boot to the BIOS (F2) and under boot devices, set your first boot device to be the CD drive. Pop your Dell Resource CD into the drive and exit the BIOS saving changes. If everything tests OK, then you need to repair the MBR. Load the Windows XP Reinstallation disc and choose Repair. In the repair console, run the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands. Then restart the PC and Windows XP shouldcome back up. Please post back and let me know what happened.
