A Disk Read Error Occurred Windows 7 Fix
tikichan: This error indicates a problem with the master boot record, or MBR. There is a chance your hard drive is going bad, or it may simply be a corruption of the MBR, which can be fixed. The first thing to do is run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive. In order to do this, you need to boot the computer to your Dell Resource CD. Boot to the BIOS (F2) and under boot devices, set your first boot device to be the CD drive. Pop your Dell Resource CD into the drive and exit the BIOS saving changes. If everything tests OK, then you need to repair the MBR. Load the Windows XP Reinstallation disc and choose Repair. In the repair console, run the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands. Then restart the PC and Windows XP shouldcome back up. Please post back and let me know what happened. If you want to be absolutely sure whether your drive is gutted/or still recoverable, try and pull it out of the laptop and place it into an external USB caddy/enclosure, and plug it into a working system to see whether the system can detect it or not... You can also try to reseat the the drive in the laptop by taking it out and putting it back in again after a cold shutdown.. Hope that helps!
