Disk Read Error Windows 10
18:12 in Storage Share Aunnix 27 November 2013 05:03:30 I have an Acer Aspire 5742 a disk read error occurred windows 10 laptop and for the last month or so it has been randomly freezing on startup every few days. As of this last few a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart windows 7 days to a week it won't boot and gives me this error message: "disk read error occurred; Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" So, I am thinking the hard drive is bad or going bad. So, I changed the boot order http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00832290 so the disc drive had 1st boot priority. I tried a Hiren's Boot CD and tried and Windows 7 disc to test and try to repair hoping it may be a bad boot sector. Upon boot it gives me the message again. I don't think it even tries to boot the disc. I then took the hard drive out of the laptop and hooked it up to another laptop running XP. I checked Disk Management and the hard http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1901075/laptop-shows-disk-read-error-occurred-press-ctrl-alt-del-restart.html drive doesn't show up/register. I don't know of anything else I can really do if it isn't recognized. I guess I'm looking for any additional advice on what to try so I can salvage my data. Any help is appreciated! (Google it if you don't know how) Check for the hard drive in there and see if it's even being detected. Also, if it's not already turned on, you should turn on SMART for your hard drive. If that is on and it detects that the drive is failing, it will tell you and it would be time to replace that drive. m 0 l Related resources acer aspire 5760 laptop no bootable device insert boot disk error. Is the drive recognized by BIOS? If it is, you need to either take it out of the computer(sometimes could void warranty if under any) and attach it to another system and test it with some brand specific HDD testing tool
