I have been backing up with Time Machine to a separate hard

drive, so I ought be able to do a repair/restore operation if I can get to the right tools. I do have a Mountain Lion installer USB stick, but unfortunately, the PC (Asus P8P87LE mobo) seems to have developed an aversion

to booting from any USB sticks! (I tried with a Linux USB stick too, just to be sure. The sticks both worked on another PC, so I think the sticks are okay.) The PC starts to boot from the sticks, but then hangs, gives up and starts the main PC boot loader (Linux GRUB) from one the hard drives. So, I probably need a CD/DVD based solution. I burned rboot to a CD, but when after it boots, it gives me that "EBIOS read ebios read error 0x31 error: Media Error block" error all over again. I guess it's trying to start or somehow interact with that broken Mac SSD? Where to go from here? My only install DVD is for Snow Leopard. The broken SSD was Mountain Lion. I'm guessing that even if I could boot the Snow Leopard disk, I wouldn't be able to use its tools to repair a Mountain Lion SSD? It sounds like I need a Mountain Lion (or maybe Mavericks?) DVD, unless I can somehow persuade my PC to boot from the USB stick. Any help on how to proceed, very welcome!! Clearing the CMOS by moving a jumper on the mobo has, indeed, cured the general problem of the PC not wanting to boot from USB sticks. A

EBIOS read error: Media error / Block 0x4b0090 Sectors 0 Asked by knul, July 3, 2012 Question knul 10 Junior Member Members 10 1 post Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) Hi,I had a working Lion installation up until today.. When I started up my computer I get the http://www.osx86.net/forums/topic/12625-help-please-ebios-read-error-media-error-block-0x4b0090-sectors-0/ following message:EBIOS read error: Media error Block 0x4b0090 Sectors 0And I have completely no idea what this means.. I hope somebody can help me with this! I really need this fixed since I am working on a video project what needs to be finished this weekend and I don't have a backup of the latest files (yeah stupid I know, but my hackintosh was working fine for at least 6-12 months, so I wasn't really expecting it to break down on me now)I installed Lion a while ago using the iB{censored} + Snow Leopard method, wich after that i updated to Lion using, I think xMove or something like that (it's been a while..). I'm preparing a 'U{censored} USB drive' at the moment (need to download Lion from the App store again), hopefully that way I can boot into my installation again..*I also just saw some 'rBoot' thing on tony mac's website ? Is possible that I can boot into my installation again like that? I have never heard anything about rBoot before.. it was probably finished after I was looking into all that stuff, and I never needed it before I guess.*I really hope somebody can help me with this! And that I posted this in the correct (sub)forum. I couldn't find an answer to this question yet.. some 'E

Now get EBIOS read error. - 05-24-2010, 07:21 PM (10v running 10.6.3, 160GB, 1GB, BT module) Hackintosh running perfectly since setup one month ago. Then I left the machine in Sleep mode for a week, unplugged from mains. I noticed yesterday that the LED was flashing ebios read error orange, and I opened the lid. The machine cut out instead of coming to life. (Why, why didn't I first plug it in?) Anyway, it won't reboot. Instead, it displays: EBIOS read error: Media error Block 0x39ad68 Sectors 0 It displays that message eight times and then reports: Memory allocation error (0xdeadbeef, 0x0) It won't boot from the Flash drive either. The Setup menu and Boot Options menu are still available. Suggestions? Anyone? Is this a BIOS failure? (after a power loss???) nesta View Public Profile Send a private message to nesta Find all posts by nesta (#2) nesta Junior Member Posts: 3 Join Date: May 2010 05-31-2010, 05:33 PM So is this bricked, or what? It seems to me that I shouldn't be able to access the Setup screens if it's bricked. Melkort? Anyone? nesta View Public Profile Send a private message to nesta Find all posts by nesta (#3) holmes4 Administrator Posts: 6,157 Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: New Hampshire 05-31-2010, 11:45 PM If you do a Google search on the error message, you'll see this comes up a lot. The two major causes I see attributed are a bad copy of the installation DVD and a corrupted SD card left in the SD slot. Can you do a reinstall?
