Raw Read Error Rate Fix
August 2014 05:52:35 Look, here's the thing: I'm not an expert in the "HDD Field", I raw read error rate western digital just turned my laptop on and saw this warning about hard disk, downloaded an HDD diagnostic (HD Tune Pro) and scanned my laptop.
Raw Read Error Rate Fail
In the health tab, there were two errors: Raw read error rate: Current: 100, Worst: 62, Threshold: 60, Data: 0, Status: Failed Current pending sectors: Current: 100, Worst, 100, Data: 8, Status: warning I also scanned it with Active@ Hard raw read error rate ssd Disk Monitor, it too shows the Raw Error Rate a varying number from 90-100%, and there's a changing high Raw Value too, but estimates "Health Status" as "OK". So what? Out of work? Hmm? What should I do? I'm getting a backup of my files right now, what after that? What if I don't replace the HDD? The first time ran I the diagnostic because I lost windows. The second time, just the other day, I can close to losing windows but managed to save it. The raw read error rate doesn't seem to be well on the smart scan and I would like to know more about this. Only 1 reallocated sector, just the ECC needs to fix the raw medium errors, which is normal given the data density. Harddrives don't really know what they are storing anymore, only after ECC has been applied is the data reliable enough not to have any bit errors. In other words, its normal that the raw read error count is quite high. All modern disks are vulnerable to this issue. Sep 8, 2014 Messages: 3 Thanks Received: 0 Trophy Points: 1 Hi! Short version: Raw_Read_Error_Rate has creeped https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/smart-raw_read_error_rate-on-wd-red.23391/ up to 1 on a new WD Red after running SMART tests and badblocks. RMA the drive? Long version: System: Supermicro X10SLH-F-O Xeon E3-1231 v3 4 x 8GB Samsung ECC Memory (from Supermicro's compatibility list) 6 x 4TB Western Digital Reds (WD40EFRX) Seasonic 460W Fanless (SS-460FL2 Active PFC F3) Antec 300 Illusion FreeNAS 9.2.1.7 Built the system, original read error PSU was DOA, ran memtest for 48 hours, memory checked out. Then ran SMART tests. My testing went something like this: For each disk: $ smartctl -t short /dev/adaX $ smartctl -t conveyance /dev/adaX $ smartctl -t long /dev/adaX Then: $ sysctl kern.geom.debugflags=0x10 And for each disk: $ badblocks -ws /dev/adaX $ smartctl -t long /dev/adaX $ smartctl -A read error rate /dev/adaX First time I did this everything went fine. Disks were staying around 30 deg C, they weren't agressively spinning down, no errors reported. SMART values all looked sane. (The runtime for the long tests and badblocks seemed to vary between the drives, but I'm guessing this is due to slightly different rotation speeds?) I rebooted and repeated the SMART and badblocks tests again. Tests passed (again), but I noticed that Raw_Read_Error_Rate is now 1 on one of the disks. This disk is the "oldest" of the bunch: I bought the drives over a period of ~2 months and was playing with FreeNAS before I had all the drives. Should I be worried? I'm running the long tests again on that drive, and am thinking of running badblocks again. The system has been on for several weeks straight at this point, but besides testing it has been unused (been really busy... :/). Thoughts? (I tried searching the forums for Raw_Read_Error_Rate but just found a lot of people posting their smartctl output... sorry
