When the application on IP address x.x.x.x no longer needs the connection it sends a TCP RST The error messages is simply stating that a TCP RST was received. This is similar to the problem discussed in KB2194664. However I can not install the hotfix for that as it just displays that the Update is not applicable to your computer. The file version of the update is higher than the one installed on https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/3ebca7e2-565b-4230-a5d6-98f9d31ec45c/2008-r2-drops-connection-to-samba-share?forum=winserverfiles the server so it should install I would have thoiught. I have treid installing on a non SP 1 server and it runs through with no problems so I guess that this is a SP 1 specific issue. Is there version of the patch for SP1 anywhere? Is this a problem that should have been fixed in SP1? You may need to check if it is a DNS/NetBIOS resolution issue. Meanwhile, as you mentioned the hotfix KB2194664, please test if this one can be installed: http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%207/WindowsServer%202008%20R2/sp1/Fix326314/7600/free/417514_intl_x64_zip.exeTechNet Subscriber Support in forum |If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com. 0 Trophy Points: 1 Good afternoon all. I have a Freenas with a couple of CIFS shares. I've set Only "Allow Guest Access" to them, https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/samba-error-with-cifs-share.27177/ but put down a few hosts in "Hosts Allow" section (every host have http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7012104 a static IP). Everything works fine, but I'm constantly receiving this kind of messages (x.x.x.119 is the one that have access to CIFS shares): Jan 29 09:31:20 freenas smbd[22295]: STATUS=daemon 'smbd' finished starting up and ready to serve connectionsreceive_smb_raw_talloc failed for client ipv4:x.x.x.119:1128 read error = NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_RESET. Jan 29 09:59:49 freenas smbd[23233]: STATUS=daemon read error 'smbd' finished starting up and ready to serve connectionspid[23233] Error writing 4 bytes to client 0.0.0.0. -1. (Broken pipe) As far as I'm concerned, my shares works fine, but it's a bad idea to ignore error messages. Is there a way to fix it? Any and all advice/comments/questions are greatly appreciated, and thanks for reading! P.S. Honestly guest access +hosts allow is not a very good method of access control. All I'd need to do is wait till a client is down, and take it's IP address.
