This gave me some WTF moments that I will share here, in the hope that it will save a future reader 1 some agonising moments Googling these problems. BASIC runtime error. Argument is not optional. This happens when you press "Run BASIC" (or F5) while the cursor is in a function or http://sjoerd-hemminga.com/2015/05/writing-libreoffice-macros-basic/ sub that requires an argument. Put the cursor in a sub that doesn't require an argument (e.g. Main) and try running again. BASIC syntax error. Label $(ARG1) undefined. In other languages results from functions are often returned using the "return" keyword. This error occurs when you try to do the same in BASIC. Change it to FunctionName=ReturnValue. Returning arrays/lists If a function is called from a cell formula and an array is returned by that function, it will be converted to a 2D Array. This happens even if the function is immediately used as a parameter to another function, e.g. "=Function1(ListReturningFunction())". If you return a 1D Array, it will be converted to a 2D Array with 1 row and n columns. If you want to return n rows, you should define a 2D Array of 1 by n in your function: Dim returnedArray(1 To n, 1 To 1) Returning booleans Similar to the Array-problem above, boolean values are c

But time was short, so until today's bank holiday I hadn't had the chance to look at it in huge depth beyond what I posted here, which actually was several hours of work.So today I approached the 92 row spreadsheet again, confirming that the error only occurred in the first basic runtime error 32 rows of the sheet. Well, the machine was running slowly, so I decided to temporarily delete all but the first three rows and try to concentrate just there.Imagine my surprise when it STILL went on to calculate 32 rows.... "Well, there must be a buffer somewhere ... Let's see what happens after a reboot..."Rebooted and, amazing! Even though the sheet had only three rows, the routine was still calculating 32 rows!!How can this be??? Twilight Zone time...But hang on. This is a complex file. Oh! the archive!! Yes, dear readers, there, buried in the archive, was work from several weeks before with yup, 32 rows of calculations with a function whose argument list has now been changed...So lessons learned:+ Ctrl-Shift-F9 recalculates ALL formulas in ALL sheets, not just the active sheet+ Always take your time, write down your test steps+ Reduce your problem to only two or three iterations+ And be thankful for resources like OOO.Profound apologies...Best regards, Andy======================== Read no further

Code: Private Sub Command1_Click() MsgBox "Hello" End Sub That works just fine. There has to be something else going on in your program.
