Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up asp.net 'server error in '/' application' message with all aspx files in site https://www.asp.net/hosting/tutorials/displaying-a-custom-error-page-cs up vote 0 down vote favorite I'm seeing the "Server Error in '/' Application." message on a number of sites on my server. These sites can be as simple as an empty IIS site containing an index.aspx file with no ASP code, indicating there may be some sort of configuration issue. I can't find any more about the error, as changing the web.config file to allow me to view these http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9005483/asp-net-server-error-in-application-message-with-all-aspx-files-in-site errors doesn't work, and the site isn't available from localhost, so I can't see a more detailed error so I'm wondering if it's some sort of configuration issue. aspx files seem to be working fine on the default site on this server, and on one of the other sites, but not on some of the others or any new ones I create. Does anyone have any idea how I can troubleshoot this issue further? Edited to provide my index.aspx file and web.config file index.aspx

The customErrors section specifies how to handle errors that occur with file types that are mapped to ASP.NET, such as .aspx, .asmx, and .ashx files. (In IIS 6.0 and in IIS 7.0 in classic mode, static content files such as .html and .jpg files are not mapped to ASP.NET.) The settings in the example customErrors section cause any unhandled HTTP 404 (file not found) errors to be directed to the Http404ErrorPage.aspx file. These HTTP 404 errors would occur if a request were made for an .aspx file, .asmx file, and so on and if the requested file did not exist. All other unhandled errors in ASP.NET files are directed to the DefaultRedirectErrorPage.aspx file. If static content files are not handled by ASP.NET, a request for a nonexistent .
