runtime error message as follows: "Program:...Data Safe Local Back Up\Components\DSUpdate\DSUpdate.exe. Abnormal program termination." That's pretty much it, no error code or numbers. I go to the file/folder for DSUpdate.exe, open to follow what is datasafe the prompts as suggested from a community post I read, and get the above message. It also suggested I create recovery media for a work around, which I had already done. Any other suggestions? This was a window that popped up titled; Runtime error, Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library, with the above error message in the window. The only solution for this issue is to uninstall datasafe via the windows control panel and then reinstall. The installer is available here Download the Basic Version of DSLClick here to download. I had issues uninstalling datasafe via the windows control panel so I had to use Revo Uninstaller. But it's working fine now once that I've reinstalled datasafe again. Windows 7: Dell DataSafe Local Backup, Runtime Error (DSUpdate.exe) 17 Mar 2014 #1 osu1357 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit 30 posts Dell DataSafe Local Backup, Runtime Error (DSUpdate.exe) http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19446814 I have a Dell Inspiron 5721 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It came installed with Dell DataSafe Local Backup. Periodically, I get this "Runtime Error" message (see below) when it tries to run DSUpdate.exe. I called the Dell DataSafe tech support and their "solution" was to uninstall the program and re-install it. Well this worked (at least at first). Now I continue to get http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/325645-dell-datasafe-local-backup-runtime-error-dsupdate-exe.html that annoying message (which I just click 'OK' and close it). 1) Why am I getting this message on practically a brand new laptop? 2) How do I resolve this? Can this application be deleted, or should I leave it as is? 3) What does this application even do (is it needed)? Is it bloatware? My laptop did not come with any factory installation CDs so I really can't do a clean install if something were to happen (not sure if that is even relevant to my question) .. I know I'm not the only one that's experienced this, so my question is what is the correct solution to this issue? Program:...|DataSafe Local Backup\Components\DSUpdate\DSUpdate.exe abnormal program termination a little icon still loads into the notification area and appears to be functional - i can open the Dell Datasafe local backup progam. although this program came with the computer i don't want to get rid of it because i may need it one day to restore the computer back to factory default, which is all the free version is good for except for making system recovery and repair disks. also, years ago i used the below site to optimize and secure XP. can you recommend something similar for Windows 7? i've looked around here and couldn't find anything similar. http://home.comcast.net/~supportcd/OptimizeXP.html thank you, hans ps. this is a basic Dell desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium Last edited by Han Solo; September 1st, 2012 at 05:07 PM.
