a message posted yesterday that 'memory could not be read'. Tx to everyone who contributed so far. As the thread was getting complicated I thought I'd summarise things - together with some /new information/ that suggests http://www.accountantforums.com/threads/error-message-memory-could-not-be-read-part-2.25896/ it may not be a hardware fault. Just in case it is substantive, it is a UK http://ask.brothersoft.com/how-to-fix-problems-closing-quickbooks-139097.html edition. The detailed message I get is : Window Title for Error QB Regular 2005 qbw32.exe - Application Error. Detailed Message The instruction at "0x00407634" referenced memory at "0x032bb1ffc". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the programme. Original Problem a.. If I try to open my QB datafile from my pc I always get this error message independent of whether that file is on runtime error the server or my pc. b.. There are no other preceding error messages. c.. I /can/ open the datafile from another pc (ie it is not corrupt - but see below anyway). What I've Done so Far a.. I've taken out the memory chips and re-inserted them. I've also run a complete memory check using memtest86 v1.65; there were no errors. b.. I've reindexed the data file and verified it. c.. /NEW/ I can also open the data file on my pc if it is qbw32.exe application error running in safe mode or in diagnostic start-up. d.. /NEW/ I can also open the data file on my pc if I log on as a different user. Bottom Line It seems that there is something in my current user profile that is triggering the problem. Question Short of recreating another user (ie having to set up all email accounts, MSOffice settings, etc, etc, etc,.) does anyone have any ideas of isolating and removing the problem. TIA Rob RFJ, Sep 20, 2006 #1 Advertisements L Guest I found this while searching the US support data base (the link was session related, so I cut/pasted the article) Title Error: "qbw32.exe - Application Error: The instruction at OX([###]) referenced memory at OX([###]). The memory could not be 'read'." KB ID#: 319032 Categories: Data and Utilities Question: Why do I receive the following error when I exit QuickBooks? qbw32.exe - Application Error: The instruction at OX([###]) referenced memory at OX([###]). The memory could not be 'read'. Possible Cause: This error may occur when exiting QuickBooks immediately after synchronizing contacts with Microsoft® Outlook® or Symantec ACT! TM. Answer: The error will not affect functionality or data. You can close it and continue normal activities. Note: The error will not occur if you perform other functions in QuickBooks after synchronizing contacts. Last Modified: 10/22/2003 Created: 10/22/2003 I should mention that in the search there are other possibilities listed. The UK website did not yeild any results. I found three possible responses on the US website at http:
Quickbooks? 11/10/2011 09:31 by JohnEverard First answer posted by TommyB at 11/10/2011 09:31 Add Your Answer 10~1000 characters in length CAPTCHA: Post without login 1 Answers TommyB Depending on the year of your QuickBooks software, you may experience difficulties or abnormalities closing out of the program. These problems seem to stem from the same source in an errant Microsoft Windows update that isn't compatible with the QuickBooks software. Microsoft Windows Update Problem In 2007, the year Windows Vista was introduced, a random Windows update caused a series of problems for QuickBooks users in not allowing them to open their company file. That problem led to thousands of QuickBooks users deleting the update from their computers. On June 22, 2010, a similar update from Microsoft generated an error message when closing the QuickBooks software. The three typical error messages generated included: "Qbw32.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x564000e0" referenced memory at "0x02e74360." The memory could not be read." "AVMTimer:qbw32.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x564000e0" referenced memory at "0x02e74360." The memory could not be read." "Microsoft Windows - QuickBooks has stopped working" The numbers in the error message may differ depending on your computer. Answer to Update Problem The answer that solved the issue created in 2007 was to restore the original 1.0 Net Service packet and delete the 2.0 update. The good news is that this "error" does not damage, compromise or prevent you from working in the QuickBooks program. It is not essential to fix it if you can just ignore the incessant error messages on closing. If you choose, Microsoft has created a patch for this issue. The link to the patch is located in Resources below. Automatic Closing Problems Occasionally when using QuickBooks, you will receive this error message: "QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close." This can happen at any time but seems to occur most frequently when closing a memorized report or printing checks. If QuickBooks closes while printing checks, you may need to reprint checks that stopped prior to QuickBooks closing and to scroll through the memorized reports that caused the error. Fixing the Automatic Closing Problems Whether the error happens while printing checks or closing memorized reports, the cause is often the same.
