Error involving QuickBooks Discussion in 'Software' started by auntsushi, Apr 2, 2006. auntsushi Private E-2 I was having lots of popups, but successfully solved that problem by going through READ ME and following the steps. Somehow during all of this, my Quickbooks has stopped working. I cannot open it and get the following message: Microsoft Visual C++Runtime Library: Runtime Error! Program:C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooksPro\qbw32.exe abnormal program termination. I deleted nothing manually--only those "bad things" scanned with the various programs were deleted by the program itself. The computer is a Dell Inspiron1150, Mobile Intel(R)Pentium(R); NTFS file system; 2.66GHz; 1.60GHz, 256m of RAM; Windows XP Home Edition OS. I https://community.intuit.com/tags/runtime%20error have brought the laptop home from work for the weekend to try to solve this problem. My boss is almost having a heart attack, as all Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, and Inventory for the company are in Quickbooks. Yikes!! Please help--it wilol be greatly appreciated. Uninstall then reinstall into a new directory and if you can do this in safe mode so you can be sure nothing else is running in the background that is messing up the install. If you have anti virus software turn it off while installing!Scoring disabled. If so can you open the data file giving the error on any other computer? If you can't then I would recommend either restoring a back up or running an external rebuild on a COPY of the data file. It's important you do the rebuild on a copy just incase. To run an external rebuild: 1. Click once on your QB Icon on the desktop 2. Hold the CTRL key down and press Enter. Program: C:\program files\quickbooks\qbw32.exe abnormal program termination I've scanned with 2 programs for viruses... and nothing. I've cleaned the computer with adaware and other tools.. still nothing suggestions? don, Jan 6, 2004 #1 Advertisements Larry Stinson Guest Sounds to me like your C++ program is trying to open the company file with an incorrect path. If you retrieved and saved the path and name of your QB company file when your app accessed it the first time (to allow for automatic login), this is likely the cause of your problem. When you retrieve the path and name of your company file from QB, it does not return the UNC path and name. Instead (and I've always thought this was stupid), it returns the mapped drive letter you use and the file name. So when you ran your app for the first time on the network and it retrieved the path and name of the company file, it retrieved, as an example, Z:\QBFileName.qbw. Then, when you are off the network and start your app, it tries to open Z:\QFileName.qbw, and since that file does not exist, you get the error. You are going to need to store the path and file name of your company file both on the network and off, and supply the appropriate one for automatic login. I guess I will uninstall again then clean out the registry. In article
