Although it worked OK with my sony handycam error c 31 22 camera, remember that things can get BETTER as much as WORSE. Just be aware. Someone from Canada tried it and it did not work for him (no more info). If the camera is under warranty, it will become void if you mess about with it; so please do not attempt this if you don't feel confident to do so.My Sony PC110 camcorder has been showing the error C:31:22 and C:31:23 on and off intermittently for the past 6 months.

Sometimes after inserting another tape it will work for a while, but the tape was not at fault.I read the comments on this forum http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/Di... and smacked the camcorder 2 to 3 times as Debbie suggested. No luck. If anything, things got worse, or did they? After I removed the tape I noticed the small black tape roller (see cylinder in black rubber) had fallen off its pin and was loose inside the camera. Refer to Ahmed Jasim's comment with pictures at the above link on 9 Jan 2007. I also suggest looking inside the camera's mechanisms to see if the plastic locking piece is lodged somewhere inside it. In this case you can assemble it back on the roller and all should work.I could not find my locking piece, so I carried on as follows:I took the loose roller out and inserted the tape again. The error changed to C:31:11 and some times to C:31:42. I opened the tape's compartment door but the tape did not eject (I assume because roller was missing?). As explained here http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/Di... I removed the battery, connected to mains (no waiting in between) and hey presto! Tape ejected. After that, I had the camera working in less than 1 minute. As explained in the links above and shown in my video, I cut a 3mm long piece from an empty ball point pen tube (or biro) and inserted it i

recently, I Googled this code to find that others have ran into this same pesky problem with other Sony video devices. I always thought the problem was tape brand related as the code would rear its ugly head during http://www.ff-squad.com/sony/ playback and mostly during rewind jobs on either Sony brand or Panasonic brand mini-dv tapes. My assumptions were close, but not close enough! Isn't the internet great??? I came across this forum: http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Video%20Camera/Sony/Error_Code_C.31.xx Which upon reading, found a DIY https://www.avforums.com/threads/sony-camcorder-c31-error-fix-a-must-read.960697/ fix from an Iranian fella by the name of Ahmed Jasim. He explains that a 'white lock pin' is the culprit allowing the black rubber roller to become out of place which in turn makes the Sony device throw sony handycam error code C:31:23. I've read about the 'bitch smacking' you can do to Sony devices throwing this code. I didn't feel like bitch slapping my tape deck for various reasons. Hence my reasons to go with Ahmeds method. Btw, this damn code prevented me from selling this Sony tape deck to a potential Craigslist customer tonight! This angered me and pushed me to try and fix the deck and to create this web page! So here we are. 23 error sony I figured I'd help out Ahmed Jasim by creating this how-to page with detailed pictures explaining his procedure in getting passed this hellish error code and getting on with your personal video project! For starters, you're doing this fix AT YOUR OWN RISK. Be very careful when performing the tasks below and to not damage or lose any of the small parts inside your camera!!! For the record, I do not know how different Sony video camera internals are vs. my Sony tape deck (hopefully very simliar). I hope you can use this article in the same fashion with your Sony video camera ;) First off, here's a picture of my Sony mini-DV tape deck -- with error code being flashed, mind you! I EFFING HATE THIS CODE! I carefully remove the tape deck's tape cover: Now I've gained better access to the internals through the top (mini-DV tape is still in the deck): With the tape ejected, you can better see what I'm trying to access : Another angle. This is the "White Lock Pin" Ahmed speaks of and black rubber roller; source of the C:31:23 problem. What happens is this white lock pin becomes unseated by moving upwards somehow and allows the black rubber roller to raise upwards which in turn causes the tape to be read funny (or something to this nature) causing the code. I was rather am
