Sign in to vote Hello, I'm having trouble running jobs with my active directory (ADS) error sqlstate 42000 syntax error or access violation 1064 account. I've setup my SQL services to run under an ADS account, but jobs cannot seem to query ADS for user information. We're running Windows Server 2003 errorcode 1064 sqlstate 42000 and SQL Server 2005 SP2. Here is the error message: == The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (ADS\me) of job eFASRtest has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'ADS\me', error code 0x5. Error: 15404, Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'ADS\me, error code 0x5. [SQLSTATE 42000] (ConnIsLoginSysAdmin) == I already tested the suggested: execute as login='ads\me' and I get the same error on both (my local installations and production) appreciate your help Tuesday, August 07, 2007 2:56 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Most likely the machine account doesn’t have permission to query the AD. I would recommend requesting access to the AD administrator or change SQL Server and run the service as a low-privileged domain account that has proper permissions on the AD. -Raul Garcia SDE/T SQL Server Engine Thursday, August 09, 2007 5:57 AM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 Sign in to vote Which service account is the SQL Server running with ?Jens K. R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2. For MSSQLSERVER service we use special domain account (specified during installation of SQL Server). Now we have some trouble with setting up replication, https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/9dddf08e-929c-43b4-bc10-ac8f36cbb023/sqlstate-42000-error-15404-with-ads?forum=sqlsecurity generally we have error: "Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DOMAIN\user', error code 0x5", when try to start or delete replication instances or access other pages\features. For example, when I go to 'Permissions' page in Server Properties, and open 'Effective' tab in SQL Server Management Studio, I can see properties only for some domain accounts https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/27f62fc2-aa74-4c9c-b559-b65b20d6bbb3/could-not-obtain-information-about-windows-nt-groupuser-domainuser-error-code-0x5?forum=winserverDS (that have Logins in MSSQL), for others I have error "Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DOMAIN\user', error code 0x5". I go to AD, try to view differents in those accounts, but at first glance it seems that they are identically. 0x5. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 15404)) 0 We have a maintenance plan for DB backup which runs under the SQL Service Agent account. The logon for the SQL Agent Service is domain\\username who is also the system administrator. The Backup job puts the 'bak' file directly on another server. This https://ask.sqlservercentral.com/questions/95849/backup-maintenance-plan-error-code-0x5-sqlstate-42.html login id has admin rights on both machines as well as full control permissions on the destination folder. The job was running fine till last friday, but over the weekend the job failed stating the error shown in the question https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026067 above. The password of this account was changed on last monday, but till friday it did not create any issues. I changed the logon password for the SQL Server agent service, but it still gives the same errror. Will I have state 42000 to update the password for the main SQLSERVER service and restart it for the maintenance plan to execute? Please confirm... Viewable by all users 1 answer: sort voted first ▼ oldest newest voted first 0 If the Engine and the Agent share the same service account then yes you will need to change both service's passwords. Also it is the Engine which does the writing of the BAK file not the Agent, so again yes you will need to change the main SQLServer service password and recycle for it to take effect. Always wise if possible to set service account passwords to never expire if your organisation allows it. more ▼ 3 total comments 409 characters / 74 words answered Nov 19, 2012 at 12:46 PM anthony.green 2.6k ● 1 ● 4 ● 6 Thanks Anthony, I'll have to try it in the non-business hours.
