Have a look at this link : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319832/en-us Does it break when you launch it twice ? Have a look here : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=178510 You could also have a look here : http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=756598 And finally : you should avoid using the with block with a Word Application object you should free your variables (Set ... As Nothing, wrdApp.Close, ...) Hope that helps, Regards, Max share|improve this answer answered Jun 15 '11 at 9:45 JMax 16.4k84469 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote or you can try this shorter version: Function abc() As String doc = "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads\fwfiles\webs.doc" Set objDoc = GetObject(doc, "Word.Application") abc = doc.Range.Text

I have a word doc (2010) which is connected to an access DB (2010) for a mail merge. The mail merge has http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5496294/error-462-in-vba-remote-server-machine-not-found already been done from word to access, then I'm just using a vba call from access to open the word doc. When I run the command the first time round, it opens, prints and closes just fine. If I run it again, I get the following error: "Run time error 462. The remote machine does not exist or is unavailable" and it debugs at the following section of http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=242349 the code: "Set myMerge = ActiveDocument.MailMerge" From looking about apparently the below code is not "Releasing" the word document properly, so when it goes to run again, it errors. That said, if that is the issue, I don't know how to modify the below. Can anyone help me please? It would be really appreciated!! Dim LWordDoc As String Dim oApp As Object 'Path to the word document LWordDoc = "D:\Remote Applications\AIA Invoice Management\Mail_Merges\Bulk Merges\8 - 14 Days Chase Letter.docx" If Dir(LWordDoc) = "" Then MsgBox "Document not found." Else 'Create an instance of MS Word Set oApp = CreateObject(Class:="Word.Application") oApp.Visible = True 'Open the Document oApp.Documents.Open FileName:=LWordDoc Set myMerge = ActiveDocument.MailMerge If myMerge.State = wdMainAndSourceAndHeader Or _ myMerge.State = wdMainAndDataSource Then With myMerge.DataSource .FirstRecord = 1 .LastRecord = 100000 End With End If With myMerge .Destination = wdSendToPrinter .Execute End With oApp.ActiveDocument.Close oApp.Quit End If abbaddon223 View Public Profile Find More Posts by abbaddon223 02-20-2013, 12:48 AM #2 pwbrown Newly Registered User Join Date: Oct 2012 Location: Northern Ireland Posts: 170 Thanks: 10 Thanked 19 Times in 19 Posts Re: Runtime Error 462 - VBA Not Releasing Word Try adding oApp = nothing after oApp.Quit. I have researched this problem for some 5 hours now and spent days trying to resolve it. Some examples of other threads that I have read with the same issue: HTML Code: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=569061 http://www.tushar-mehta.com/excel/vba/xl_doesnt_quit/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/189618 The issue is that I am writing code in VBA Word which calls an instance of Excel, does some stuff, and then closes Excel. Running the code again a second time usually results in the infamous error 462: "The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable". The Microsoft knowledge base (link above) advises to "Modify the code so that each call to a Word object, method, or property is qualified with the appropriate object variable." I have gone through with a fine tooth comb and made sure that everything is qualified and referenced correctly and explicitly. Furthermore, after reading the second article (link above) I have used late-binding on their suggestion to remove the issue of the Excel application continuing to run in the background after its supposed to be closed. I have found the [first instance of] offending line which causes the Excel app to continue to run, which, if omitted, makes the problem go away. The code is quite lengthy so I will only post the relevant parts: Code: Private Filepath As String Private First_Row As Long, Last_Row
