Up until then updating Admin tools and Backup had worked flawlessly. Not saying they did anything wrong, that's just the timeline. Updated to 2.5.6 and 500 Error etc. Checked 'system information' > 'configuration file log_path >/home/xxxxxx/public_html/logs tmp_path > /home/xxxxxx/public_html/tmp which corresponds with the settings in 'Global Configuration' however in 'PHP Settings' open_basedir > /home2/xxxxxx:/
