Expected 1 up vote 0 down vote favorite This is driving me crazy and I am too few parameters hoping that someone can help me. I am using Visual Studio Express 2012 and am making a Windows Form application in VB to access data in a MS Access 2010 database. This is done using an ODBC Microsoft Access Driver. I originally had all my SELECT, UPDATE, and INSERT statements built out as a string. I went back and changed them to parameter based commands to handle special characters and to eliminate the database insertion threat. All works fine except for one query. Here is the code that is giving me problems: Dim cmdSQLQuery As Odbc.OdbcCommand cmdSQLQuery = SCCResources.dbConnSCCResources.CreateCommand cmdSQLQuery.CommandText = "SELECT tblRepairRequests.ID as [Repair Request ID #], tblRepairRequests.RequestType as [Request Type], tblRepairRequests.PositionLocation as [Position #], tblRepairRequests.DateTimeSubmitted as [Date/Time Submitted], tblRepairRequests.DateTimeClosed as [Date/Time Closed], tblRepairRequests.Status, tblRepairRequests.SubmitterFirstName as [Submitter's First Name], tblRepairRequests.SubmitterLastName as [Submitter's Last Name], tblRepairRequests.SubmitterIDNumber as [Submitter's ID #], tblRepairRequests.SupervisorFirstName as [Supervisor First Name], tblRepairRequests.SupervisorLastName as [Supervisor Last Name]

Some queries work fine, but on one I keep getting the errors: 07002 -3010 [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few parameters. Expected 1. [RODBC] ERROR: Could not SQLExecDirect 'SELECT baseunit FROM archiverapp_common_units WHERE unitname = "ng/ml"' I am using the 'sqlQuery' function to make the query. The SELECT statement given in the error is what I intend it to be and works when I copy-paste directly into Access. From what I've gathered looking at similar posts this frequently results from misspelling a column or table name, but everything seems correct here. mysql r ms-access odbc rodbc share|improve this question asked Jul 25 '14 at 20:22 JaredL 398215 Might be a locale/encoding issue with your ng/ml have you tried typing in this query at the command line? –Brandon Bertelsen Jul 25 '14 at 21:01 You got me fooling around with the command line and I figured out it apparently doesn't like you using double quotes, single ones work fine. –JaredL Jul 25 '14 at 21:21 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote Figured it out - apparently the answer was to use single quotes instead of double quotes in the WHERE clause. Changing the query string in my R code from this 'SELECT baseunit FROM archiverapp_common_units WHERE unitname = "ng/ml"' to
