I've got U-Boot working but can't seem to get the kernel to load. Most of the time it only goes as far as: Starting kernel ... Uncompressing Linux... A couple of times while playing with U-Boot env settings it ubuntu live usb uncompression error followed up with: uncompression error -- System halted I found some threads that suggested using LZO compression instead of GZIP so I've reconfigured the kernel, but now it's getting the LZO compression error message: Compressed data violation -- System halted Any suggestions how I could try to debug this? I've already enabled DEBUG_LL and printk in the kernel, but those haven't served me at all. linux kernel arm u-boot share|improve this question edited Feb 20 '14 at 9:12 Timo 3,9471024 asked Feb 19 '14 at 18:04 Gatica 13314 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Seems that there was an read error so the decompressed data has no valid checksum. Possible reasons: RAM/SRAM errrors. Too little RAM/SRAM. share|improve this answer edited Feb 20 '14 at 16:59 answered Feb 19 '14 at 19:57 user55518 Yes, I'm worried it may be a RAM issue, but since I'm no expert in the U-Boot setting for RAM (we're using DDR3) it may be a hard one to debug. –Gatica Feb 20 '14 at 8:42 It's an embedded system, there's no OS installed yet. I've built the SPL, U-Boot and Kernel and have rootfs in the 2nd partition. The design is based on AM335x

Boot repair didn-t work up vote 1 down vote favorite It has been a week trying to repair Ubuntu. It doesn't boot. I started getting "error: environment block too small" or "error. file normal.mod not found" or "error: invalid arch-independent ELF magic." Now I am getting- Uncompression error. System halted. After trying to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch, then Win7 and now Ubuntu http://askubuntu.com/questions/751624/uncompression-error-system-halted-boot-repair-didn-t-work 15.10. -I checked the RAM with grub and its OK. -Boot repair didn't work. I downloaded the torrent version of ubuntu 12.10 uncompression error system and burned it onto a dvd and created a bootable stick using unetbootin... the thing is, when restarting my computer won't recognize the dvd (the optical drive DOES read dvds...) and booting from cd works fine. Trying to install it from the usb stick I get a black screen with a blue square labeled "unetbootin" and it seems like it wants to install, but I get "uncompression error - system halted" before it gets past the second text line. Any suggestion? My computer ran 12.04 just fine and I'm using Mint 11 as a temporary solution 12.10 system-installation dvd system share|improve this question edited Aug 3 '14 at 20:41 Tim 14.6k859101 asked Oct 31 '12 at 8:39 Lucas 412 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Actually, I solved it... Had to download the ISO file again and create a bootable USB disk using the default bootable disk creator tool (used unetbootin last time). When I had 12.04 running, it wouldn't accept my previous ISO f

I then put in the windows 7 install disk and when i choose to boot from the disk it went to a blank screen and remained. I then tried Ubuntu and received an error: "uncompression error - system halted" i then tried a "sysresccd.org" and it booted up just fine with options but i wasn't sure where to go from there. i then started Windows XP Pro 64 bit and when the install gets to the installing NTFS part right in the beginning of the install the machine restarts and i am then stuck in a loop. 0 Question by:richardjones1025 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 76 Active today Best Solution byarnold get memtest (memtest.org) and test the memory. You would burn the disk or configure the USB boot. 0 Message Author Comment by:richardjo
