I know I didn't explicitly initialize it but due to Default Value Table a value type is initialized with 0 anyways. The use of unassigned local variable string reference also reminds me: Remember that using uninitialized variables in C# is not allowed. But why do I have to do it explicitly if it's already done by default? Wouldn't it gain performance if I wouldn't have to do it? Just wondering... c# .net compiler-construction share|improve this question asked Feb 10 '12 at 18:41 theknut 59521231 Can anyone help me with the headline? Couldn't find a fitting for this one :-S –theknut Feb 10 '12 at 18:44 I have a local struct, never initialized, compiles with no errors. Today I created a different struct, treated identically, got "uninitialized local variable error". All its members were set to a value before use, but I could not first set it to null, since it was 'just' a struct. The struct that compiled contained only ints, bools and strings. The one that gave the error also contained DateTimes. "MyStructType myStruct = new MyStructType();" killed the error. Not the first time I've been bitten by missing something a few levels down. –mickeyf Jun 2 at 19:14 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest vote

If so, just edit your orchestration in Notepad.Find the same error message and delete it. I have created a scope shape and set its transaction type to long running. I have added an exception block. I have set the Exception Object Type to System.Exception. I have also created a .NET assembly for my error logging. I have referenced this in my project. use of unassigned I have created a variable to this type (I identified the variable as Log).I'm having a problem with using the Log variable in the Exception block. If I write Log.LogEvent("BlahBlah"); in an expression shape in the Exception Block I get "use of unassigned local variable 'Log'" error. However, if I use the same expression shape in the scope variable before the Exception Block, there's no error and it logs "BlahBlah" perfectly.I have two questions then: How do I get my .NET assembly to log exceptions in an orchestration? If I set my Exception Block to System.Exception, will it handle BizTalk XLang, third party adapter, etc. exceptions as well? Because your variable might not already have some value assigned.I would suggest to initialize some default value to the variable at outer scope.Post by RobHi,We use Biztalk 2006 R2.I have an orchestration that begin with a receive shape and the next shapeis a loop that check for a boolean variable.
