Cisco Vpn Client Error 414
a connection via Cisco VPN Client (version is 5.0.07.0290), but i get the below mentioned error. I have to say that i'm using Windows 8. "Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 403: Unable to contact the security gateway." I've tried several fixes, but none of them worked. The display name in regedit is the correct, and my certificates are ok as well. If i switch to TCP (the default is UDP) i get error 414. Firewall is off. Any cisco vpn client error 403 unable to contact security gateway suggestions will be appreciated. Last update: Well, we ended up using Group Authentication, so the certificate problem is no longer an issue. Thank you all for the input. networking windows-8 vpn cisco share|improve this question edited Dec 17 '12 at 12:01 asked Nov 29 '12 at 15:01 Magnum 1,2221617 migrated from stackoverflow.com Nov 29 '12 at 15:43 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. Try to look for this certificate in your stores, as described in this article. –harrymc Dec 4 '12 at 18:13 Thanks for the input, but the registry entry in my case was correct, so no change required. –Magnum Dec 4 '12 at 22:48 1 Please read the paragraph after the registry part. –harrymc Dec 5 '12 at 8:26 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote try these solutions: Top 10 VPN issues/solutions tech Users report that the client is terminating when they try to establish a connection In this situation, users will see an error message is similar to VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. I am wondering has anyone been able to resolve the error 403 Unable to contact the security gateway. I have found solutions like on this blog, importing the certificate to computer store instead the user store, but it seems that they are not applicable when using smart card, I have found on some forums that this works only if you import the private key of the certificate in the computer store (which I cannot do in this case) Is anybody using smartcard and ipsec dialup to Cisco on Windows 8 cisco cisco-vpn share|improve this question asked Nov 29 '12 at 17:28 rAlen 1,02011016 I am having the same issue with Windows 8 and eToken instead of smart card. We were able to ask the TOC about this issue. IPsec to L2tp or straight ipsec connections are supported, but cisco VPN client will not run on Windows 8. In Fact the client will not be supported by Cisco come 2014 as they feel their ssl protocol is much more secure. The work around to install Cisco VPN Client is to edit the registry: Open Registry editor by typing regedit in Run prompt Bowse to the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CVirtA Select the DisplayName to modify, and remove the leading characters from the value data up to "%;": For x86, change the gobeldegook data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter” For x64, change the value data from something like "@oem8.
