It sounds like you have gathered all the info you need.I would bet that if the Vista client lets you select those settings (I don't know as I haven't played with Vista yet) and it still doesn't work, your watchgaurd uses something proprietary and the special client is required because of that. In that case you are out of luck till someone comes up with a work around or updates the client software for vista.
