Service Provider (ISP), or a corporate firewall. In this situation, IPSec ISAKMP traffic that negotiates the tunnel establishment, the tunnel establishes, but w-runtime reported exception 0x490 = 1168 the ESP- or AH-encapsulted traffic inside the tunnel does not get through. When the banner text is retrieved through the established tunnel, the banner message or any other traffic secured by the ESP or AH never reaches the client and the NVC continues to wait for response from the gateway until a timeout period is reached. To resolve this issue, ensure the following traffic is allowed to pass through the firewalls along the path:Â UDP protocol (17) port 500, both inbound and outbound ESP protocol (50), both inbound and outbound AH protocol (51), both inbound and outbound It is not necessary to specify source and destination ports for ESP or AH protocols, but if a particular firewall implementation requires it, use zero or N/A as ports dependent on firewall or router requirements. The following rule example is for Sophos: Â Like this:Like Loading... Related This entry was posted on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 at 7:12 pm and is filed under Networking. What type of endpoint are you using? VPN Router? VPN Gateway? Secure Router? Upgrading to the latest available 10.06.301/500 client resolves one such issue if the tunnel mode is SSL. The VPN client was using a legacy Microsoft API in service mode. The tunnel may not be establishing. It may be blocked by interim firewall or a problem on the VPN endpoint. Tunnels operate in either ESP mode or UDP mode. If traversing a NAT or firewall, UDP mode is recommended. Some firewall/NAT devices misbehave and make the client think ESP is established when UDP is required for transport. There are several other corner cases that can lead to banner failure. Start with the first and investigate the second by tracing on the client. If the ESP traffic is one way (client to VPN endpoint) and no UDP traffic - then likely a misbehaving NAT or VPN endpoint is not properly configured to support UDP encapsulation. rshaynes View Public Profile Find all posts by rshaynes Tags banner, client, router, vpn « Previous Thread | Next Thread » Thread Tools Show Printable Version Display Modes Linear Mode Switch to Hybrid Mode Switch to Threaded Mode Search this Thread Advanced Search Posting
