PCI (long connetor) or PCIe (short connector? - Which driver were you http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=714135 trying to install, and what operating system? This will help Robert (and us) to figure out what card you actually have, however from what I can tell this ID (000A) is tagged for the SB1040, a PCIe version of the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio. Here it is - hardwareheaven.com/members/198397/albums/226/760.jpg It's the PCI version. On the back, it says the model number is SB0770 (b). I tried the Official PAX MASTER PCI XFI Driver Suite 2013 V1.00 ALL OS Stable Drivers version, but it gave me the code 10 error. Before I installed the drivers, it showed up as a High Definition Audio Device. It didn't have the code 10 error, but I wasn't getting any sound. justinnickovtime, Apr 15, 2013 #3 Robert McClelland I'm An Uncle for 2nd time Staff Member Joined: Jun 25, 2002 Messages: 15,149 Likes Received: 231 Trophy Points: 88 Did you try have disk threw device manager? Not thinking much of it, I logged in. Within a few seconds, I received a notification that Windows had recovered from an unexpected shutdown. The shutdown indicated that a BSOD had occurred, and the stop code was 0x124. I don't believe in taking STOP errors at face value. I always have to know what caused them. So I fired up WinDbg to take a look, and it came back indicating that a fatal hardware failure was detected. Unfortunately in x64 I don't get the option to create a full memory dump (physical memory 4 GB), so I have to settle for a kernel dump. The intriguing thing about the coredump generated was that the process it seems to "blame" is Nostromo.exe, which is an instant messaging application that I would not consider to be hardware-related by any stretch of the imagination. I should know; I wrote it. And I've been running it since 2004. The current build of Nostromo that I'm running was compiled in January, 2007. Anyhow, after reading about STOP 0x124 via Google and other sources, it seemed that people believed that it had to do with sound card drivers. Which leads me to... A few weeks ago I upgraded Vista to Service Pack 1. Immediately after the upgrade, any sound coming out of my speakers was accompanied by God-awful static...very painful to the ears. It was very high pitched and sounded that continued playing would damage the speakers. I uninstalled the SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic driver and downloaded the latest version from Creative, WHQL certified for Vista x64. That solved the problem...for a day. Since my XPS 710 has built in sound on the mobo, I decided to sell the X-Fi on eBay and use the built-in sound. I downloaded the latest version of the SigmaTel driver for x64 from Dell (WHQL ce
