Windows Vista Share tacomaguy20 2 May 2009 10:31:07 Hey guys was hoping you could help me out with an issue. I'm trying to install a prolific pl 2303 usb to serial driver on my windows vista ultimate 64 bit edition and I keep getting the same error. Error 1078: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/ed214b30-b094-43c0-85e8-4702da85b5dd/add-service-failed-to-create-service?forum=wdk The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name. I've been looking online for similar issues but can't seem to find the exact problem. However it does appear that I need to find the conflicting name in the registry and the modify or delete the entry that is conflicting. My question is, how do http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/238909-44-service-service-display-error I know the name of what is conflicting. I've pulled up my setupapi.dev.log and I don't know what all this means. Hope one of you pros would be able to tell me. What is the service name that is conflicting? Also just so you know I have tried installing this and uninstalling the driver several times with no luck and have even downloaded the most recent driver from the manufacturer. Any help would be most appreciated. Error 1078 Service name already http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-help/22926-error-when-installing-device-driver-due-renaming-service-name-driver-image.html in use Tried to install a brand new USB 2.0 Fantom1TB drive today and failed. I got an error saying there was a problem installing the driver. The device lists in the device manager, windows 10 but if I look at the WINDOWS/Setupapi.log it shows that it couldn't install the drivers because it thinks the service name is already in use. Here's what the log says: #I123 Doing full install of "USBVID_0424&PID_2228°20128B005". #-035 Processing service Add/Delete section http://USBSTOR_BULK.NT.Services. #E279 Add Service: Failed to create service "USBSTOR". Now I'm a Mac guy, so I don't have a clue what this Service name is or how to get rid of it. A quick search indicated that it can be caused by a left over entry in the Registry. But which one? I already deleted a USBSTOR key in the 'services' branch but with no joy. In fact I think it made it worse. I noticed another USB device not loading properly now as well. Anyone seen this and know what to do? Mark gbmarc View Public Profile Send a private message to gbmarc Find all posts

" The ndis driver is enumerated by a multifunction driver which is enumerated by the pci bus driver. The multifunction driver had the same errors, but due to persistence (undocumented, which is the worst kind), the registry keys for the old driver were removed and the renamed driver installed. I would like to take a documented approach to this issue: - how can I find out which display name collides and where is it traked? if it is in the registry, then which registry key is compared? - what is the cause of the problem and how can I prevent it in the future? is it because the driver unin
