26, 200646 0 0 0 I had couple of .CHM files, specially for C# .NET related stuff and I saw some of the chm files when I open them I see windows help file viewer "This page cannot be displayed" error. Finally I figured out that
Hlp File Viewer
there could be two reasons for this: [Option 1 courtesy chan.chawla from the posted comment, adding as
Windows Help Program (winhlp32.exe) For Windows 10
the first option to be tried out before going any further] 1. Double click the .chm file. It will open a security dialog. Uncheck "Always ask after opening
Winhelp Windows 7
this file". Alternatively, right click on the file you want to open, click Properties and then click Unblock. This should do the trick. 2. If you chm file name or the path contains ‘#' character, just get rid of that and I guess you would be able to start viewing your chm files again. 3. If nothing kb917607 windows 10 works, try this. Because of a Microsoft Service Pack, the chm files does not have enough permissions (by default). This case is usually when you try to open .chm files over network. The resolution for this is as follows: Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Locate and then click the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions [If this registry subkey does not exist, create it] Right-click the ItssRestrictions subkey, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Type MaxAllowedZone, and then press Enter. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor. For more information check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896358. 4. One more reason provided for unable to open chm files [courtesy colin.cole] Any chm file that is in a folder named *.col* will not open. Example paths that will cause this error: c:\asdf.col\TFSInstall.chm c:\documents and settings\john.coltrane\desktop\TFSInstall.chm Solution: Move file somewhere else on your computer. All sources I studied this far tell me to report it at connect.microsoft.com (PowerShell section) This is my first "contribution" to the community! I want to do it correctly. Would I submit it as a "bug" or "feedback"? thanks August 4, 2016 at 7:12 pm #49345 Don JonesKeymaster All the help files are open source now! GItHub.com/powershell windows 10 is the starting point. You can either file an issue, or just fork the repo, fix the problem, and submit a pull request August 4, 2016 at 7:27 pm #49349 Jeff TaylorParticipant ok...so looking here https://github.com/powershell?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query= I don't see any repo hit for "help" that deals with help files per se in PowerShell. Do I create new Repository (I'm new to GitHub)? August 4, 2016 at 8:54 pm #49352 Don help file error JonesKeymaster There are separate sub folders for documentation. And no, you definitely don't create a new repository :). It might be easier to find what you're after and just file an issue against it, or use the teams UserVoice page. But it's worth your time to read up on GitHub and how to use Git. It's a big part of powershell now. August 4, 2016 at 9:08 pm #49354 Jeff TaylorParticipant I found this doc readme.md and posted a request for submitting the issue: https://github.com/taylorfusion/PowerShell-Docs/commit/c66244ad1e7fe466fd680cee7fdae5b83bbefbf0 August 5, 2016 at 12:39 pm #49403 Dan PotterParticipant That's cool. reading the help about_activedirectory_filter there are multiple references to email as an attribute in AD. Get-ADUser -Filter 'Email -like "*" -and SurName -eq "smith"' August 5, 2016 at 12:49 pm #49405 Dan PotterParticipant Seems to be all about dsc.
