It is because Windows 7 uses a MTP driver instead of the USBAAPL. You need to update the driver from pointing to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. http://ccm.net/forum/affich-17997-ipod-not-detected It worked for me. my old programs after my upgrade. Only when i plug in my usb external drive and ipod touch, ipod video. It does not recognize it. http://windows.ifmdb.com/gBKinfz8-win-7-does-not-recognize-usb-drive-ipod.html I tried device manager and looking for it there, it does not http://www.technipages.com/itunes-fix-iphone-or-ipod-not-detected-in-windows show up. When i go on safe mode, "usb mass storage" shows up but i cannot update cuz it keeps saying it already has the best driver installed. When i look at "properties" it says there is no driver installed. With my ipods, i tried stopping and restarting ipod service, windows 10 apple mobile device, itunes. I tried reinstalling a newly downloaded copy of itunes at least 4 times. That does not work. There is a registry fix for this on windows xp titled "windows xp cannot detect a usb flash drive, an apple ipod, or an external hard disk drive" but does not have one for windows 7. The xp fix even has apple mobile device a download fix for fixing the registry. Is there one also for windows 7. I am going through the trouble of installing virtual pc and xp mode just to use my devices. View Full Post With 5 Replies Related Forum Messages: Please Follow Index to Quick Jump to the Message. Mitch Bartlett 364 Comments Filed Under: iOS, Windows Tagged: iPhone 7, ipod touch, itunes, Windows 10, Windows 8 I recently upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 and found that iTunes no longer detected my iPod Touch or iPhone. Here's how I fixed it. Ensure the latest version of iTunes is installed. Open "Control Panel". Select "Hardware and Sound". Select "Devices and Printers". Your iPhone or iPod should be displayed in the "Unspecified" section. Right-click it and select "Properties". Note: If you don't see your device listed here, ensure you have selected to trust the PC on the device and you are using a supported cable. Select the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Properties" button. From the "General" tab, select the "Change settings" button. Select the "Driver" tab, then select "Update Driver". Choose "Browse my computer for driver software". Select "Browse…" then navigate to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers". If you don't have this folder, check in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers". Click "Next" > "Close". Your Apple device should now be detected successfully within iTunes. FAQ Why don't I have the "Drivers" folder? It is possible your installation of iTunes didn't include it. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes and the folder should be re-created.
