In this case iTunes 10 install reinstall itunes without losing music FAILs ans will not complete. FWIW, this is a system that has been smoothly upgraded from iTunes 4, 5 on up thru latest version of 9. Now trying to move up to 10. Files download fine but during install process get an error about writing memory in regard to ipodservice.exe. Exact error msg: The instruction at "0x7c91b21a" referenced memory at "0x676e6984". the memory could not be "written".After 5 identical error messages, install will then fail with an error stating that iTunes install ould not continue as iTunes needs QuickTime. This is not helpful as I have QT Pro for Win installed - the most recent version before the version released with iTunes 10. Apple software update app does not offer a separate QT install - it is bundled with the iTunes install kit.If I go into services, I see the iPodService running. After the error occurs, the service is disabled. If I try to restart it, it says the service is flagged for deletion.I've also tried manually downloading the MSI's from the Apple Software Update app and running them manually - same errors. Not sure what else to try, have rebooted, shut down all non-essential apps, cannot get this bugger upgraded to the build of 10 that is out there as of 9/4/10. If you have an iPod, you probably should keep them, but if not, they're just (slightly) slowing you down. How to get rid of them:Make sure iTunes isn't runningIn services, disable and stop the ipodserviceDelete the following: %programfiles%\ipod, http://windowstipsandfixes.blogspot.com/2007/10/getting-rid-of-ituneshelperexe-and.html %programfiles%\itunes\ituneshelper.exe, %programfiles\itunes\ituneshelper.resourcesMake sure your shortcuts point directly to itunes.exe; shortcuts that launch iTunes through its install ID may try to restore these missing parts. Thanks SeeMoreDigital. Also, I recommend Quicktime Alternative for quicktime ability without the bloat. It works great with iTunes too. Also, I think these files are treated as services, so you can disable them from the windows services dialog (type services.msc in the run box).ReplyDeleteAnonymousMay 21, 2008 at 11:42 AMHuge thanx! iPodService.exe By Martin Brinkmann on June 7, 2009 in Tutorials - Last Update:November 30, 2012 82Users of the Microsoft Windows operating system who install the music manager iTunes will notice a large number of background processes that are connected to that program. The processes that all users are going to see http://www.ghacks.net/2009/06/07/disable-applemobiledeviceserviceexe-ituneshelperexe-and-ipodserviceexe/ are AppleMobileDeviceService.Exe, iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe with some running in the background even if iTunes has not been opened since system start. At least two of the processes seem to be connected to mobile devices like Apple's iPod or iPhone which seems like a waste of system resources if none of these devices are owned by the computer user. To say it more clearly: Why would someone need to run these processes windows 10 if they do not need them? The following paragraphs will show how to disable the three processes AppleMobileDeviceService.Exe, iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe effectively.Disable AppleMobileDeviceService.ExeAppleMobileDeviceService.Exe is a Windows Service that "provides the interface to Apple mobile devices". It does not therefor make sense to run this service if no Apple mobile devices are owned by the user. The easiest way to disable the service is to press [Windows R], type in the itunes windows 10 run box [services.msc] and press the [enter] key on the computer keyboard. This opens the Services window which displays all Windows Services. Locate the service Apple Mobile Device, right-click it and select Properties from the menu. Click on the Stop button first to stop the AppleMobileDeviceService.Exe service from running in this session. Now click on the Startup type menu and change the type from Automatic to Disabled. A click on the Apply button will complete the process of disabling AppleMobileDeviceService.Exe.Update: Please note that this is no longer working under newer versions of iTunes. What you need to do now is uninstall the program. To do that click on Start > Control Panel, select Uninstall a Program and locate the Apple Mobile Device Support entry here. Select to uninstall it to remove it and distnoted.exe, another process that it spawns.Disable iTunesHelper.exeThe ituneshelper.exe process is also running in the background all the time. This process is however started from one of the autorun locations. Getting rid of it is quite easy. Press [Windows R], type in [msconfig.exe] and hit the [enter] key on the computer keyboard.Switch to the Startup tab on top of the window and locate the iTunesHelper entry there. Uncheck that entry to disable the autostart of it when Wind
