Solved Window Update Failing with Error Code 80073712 Posted on 2014-02-14 Windows 7 1 Verified windows 10 Solution 5 Comments 7,605 Views Last Modified: 2014-03-06 I have a Dell Inspiron 6605 PC running Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit. Keeps failing whenever I try to run a Windows Update w/ Error Code 80073712. Went to Microsoft's Fix-It site and ran this "Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working" link: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/ Says it "fixed" the problem. But windows 10 update still getting that same error. SFC/scannow found no system file issues. I should note that this PC had a lot of malware that I recently removed using MBAM. I would appreciate any suggestions on resolving this. Thanks in advance. 0 Question by:anuneznyc Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 50 Active today Best Solution byjcimarron anuneznyc-- Try the suggestions in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957310 Note suggestion #5 if nothing else works. Does that mean only one. If so which one? The Error Code 80073712 usually means that the Component-Based Servicing (CBS) manifest is corrupted. Suggestions to resolve this are offered here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957310 If you are getting this error code with only one Update, there could be other more specific fixes. 0 Mes

My issue is that last night I received 8 important updates though Windows Update to install (Windows Update is set to download updates but let me choose when to install them). When I installed them, only 6 were installed. Two of them, Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3088195) and Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3097966), will not install. I have repeatedly tried to dl and install themthrough Windows Update and both of them fail, with "Error code 80073712". When this batch of 8 updates showed up last night, I downloaded all of them andWindows Update only showed it was downloading6 of them. These
