I've tried reboot from cd using home xp edition but it still comes up with \windows\system32\config\system is corrupt or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/307545 missing. XD Also, a UPS has nothing at all to do with random registry corruption. Your hard drive may be having issues. If your HDD is more than three years old, you might consider a replacement. Run "chkdsk /p" or "chkdsk /f". If you see a lot of errors or bad sectors, it's time to go shopping. Otherwise, let chkdsk fix the problems and go on your merry way. Good luck! Report Mohd. The fix posted by this user will work as its the same fix I use everytime. It's on the first page of replies about 2/3rds of the way down, containing a link Any yeah how would the HDD be damaged by light as im assuming no-one is taking the drive out, then taking it apart, and even if it was that it wouldn't just corrupt the odd reg entry! Choose Boot using the last known good configuration option that loaded Windows XP operating system with the previous configuration files. The other way is to boot the system with the Windows XP Installation CD. Once you are in windows system32 config setup, start the Recovery Console. Type in the appropriate commands and press enter after every line. Also change the C letter in the commands with the drive letter for your Windows XP operating system. Issue Solution Note Issue You're getting the following error message: C:\Windows\System32\Config\System is missing or corrupt. Solution Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive then restart the computer. Download Hiren’s BootCD 1. From another computer download “Hiren’s BootCD” . Step 3: Boot the problematic computer with Hirens.BootCD. 1. Restart your computer. 3. When the "Hiren’s BootCD” menu appears on your screen, use your keyboard arrows keys to move into the “Mini Windows Xp” option and then press "ENTER" Step 4: Restore the corrupted registry file from Windows Restore folder. 1. When “Mini Windows XP” is loaded, open Windows explorer and find the “C:\System Volume Information” folder. 2.
