I get through the loading of
Asms Windows Xp Service Pack 2
files and into the first installation window of Windows XP (after the 1st restart) and then get the system windows asking for 'The File ASMS on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD is needed. Type the
Asms Windows Xp Sp3
path where the file is located and then click OK/B]'. The text in the path text box is 'GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386'. The ASMS file (directory) is in the 1st level directory of I386 on the CD. This is also a valid OEM CD with the Hologram. The system has two CD drives; one is a CD drive and the other is a DVD/CD RW drive. It seems it is not communicating with the drive properly. I've tried arquivo asms windows xp D:\I386, E:\I386 & F:\I386. Basically, I've tried to do it about any way I can think of. Even tried using each of the CD drives. I'm running out of ideas and really don't want to lose the 'not backed up' data on the HD with a full re-install of Windows. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. Would be very grateful for any input! denels, Nov 20, 2004 #1 Sponsor Elvandil Joined: Aug 1, 2003 Messages: 51,988 The machine is not communicating with the CD-ROM. When the message appears, type: Shift+F10 to enter a command session. Type: regedit.exe at the prompt. Highlight the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry. Go to the File menu and choose Load Hive. Then, load %Windir%\System32\Config\System.sav Give it a short name that you will remember, like "Test". Then, find this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Test\ControlSet1\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Delete UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS keys. Do the same for ControlSet2 and any other numbered ControlSet keys you see. Exit regedit. I tried to windows xp reinstall Windows XP CLEANLY (not a repair, whatever that is). So I format the C: drive and you know everything goes fine until I am met with that error.I have literally tried about everything I can that I found online, nothing is working. The registry editor or device manager will not open.Setting the CD/DVD drive in the BIOS second and HDD first doesn't work.I burned the contents of asms windows xp i586(where asms is) onto a separate disc and that doesn't work.I tried entering every letter repeatedly, that doesn't work.I tried to boot off of a USB, nodo.Inserting the CD when asked doesn't work. However it does display a CD icon on the mouse and the drive light glows.. Many people say use a secondary drive, My computer only has 1.Then there are those answers about replacing drives or opening it up and all that, I can't do that the issue is.-------------------------------And that is not the only thing that has happened since this install. Even when the XP disc is inside and the CD Drive is set to boot first, it no longer displays "Enter any key to boot off CD" message. All it does now it have a little blinking line for a while, and it goes to the HDD. The light is on when it does that. I even inserted a Windows 2000 disc and it doesn't boot from that.
