I was also told "bad ram" so I changed the memory and tried again on a clean install of SP2 I still got the "file corrupt" from SP3. What I finally did that worked was download the windows installer 3.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en and the did the SP3 install without any problems what so ever.
