Service Pack 3 Setup Error
(SP3) Question 0 Sign in to vote Dear users: I downloaded a STANDALONE INSTALLER of WINXP SP3( today, final release) which apparantly runs fine, but https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949377 when installing files at about aproximately 60% it stops and I get the message: "ACCESS DENIED" the Service pack 3 installation is not complete. Select OK to undo the changes that have been made. I''m logged in as an administrator. I have seen this issue discussed elsewhere but https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/38490a7e-8474-4425-8a85-44db2e3f3fb8/cannot-update-to-winxp-sp3-access-denied?forum=itproxpsp the solution is very technical. I'd appreciate some help. Also, please where can I find a direct link to download AGAIN WINXP SP3? Arturo Tuesday, April 29, 2008 7:43 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote 1. Make a backup of your registry. 2. Download and install subinacl.exe. 3. Create a file called reset.cmd with Notepad. Copy the text below into the file reset.cmd and run reset.cmd with administrative rights (it may take a LONG time):cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fsubinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fsubinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fsubinacl /subdirectories %windir%*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=fsecedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose4. Reboot at SAFE MODE and try install SP3 again. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 12:57 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote I had the same problem. The reset.cmd and subinacl.exe tip did not work
the final version of Windows XP SP3 to public and its available via Automatic Updates, Windows Updates and Downloads Center. Earlier we http://www.askvg.com/windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3-setup-error-access-is-denied/ posted about it at following link: Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) RTM Released, Download Links Inside You can download the SP3 from the above mentioned link. A few people are facing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryqSoH7FyxA a problem while installing SP3. Whenever they try to install it, Windows shows following error message: Service Pack 3 setup error. Access is denied. OR Service Pack 3 setup error. Service windows xp Pack installation did not complete. If you are also facing the same problem, then follow these simple steps and your problem should be solved: 1. Download and install the SubInACL.msi file from here. 2. Open Notepad and paste following code: cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subdirectories service pack 3 %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose 3. Save the file with name "SP3.bat" or "SP3.cmd". 4. Now right-click on the file and select "Run as administrator" option. If you don't get this option, run the bat file directly. It might take some time to complete. 5. After completion, restart your system and now you should be able to install SP3.
