Even rebooting the machine does not allow user to rename or delete the folder. I do not see this problem when I try the exact steps above from another PC. I can even go to another PC and rename the folder he created for him, etc. If he renames the folder first and then copies file in all is well although he says he has always done it as described above. Weird. Try my fix all command sfc /scannow you can put that right into the run dialog. (it may ask for the windows CD) This checks DLLs and makes sure they aren't corrupt. If they are, it asks for the CD to replace them. May take up to an hour to finish. 0 Habanero OP Scott696d Jan 12, 2012 at 11:07 UTC I would also check the permissions on the folder to make sure they have modify rights (within the folder properties -> security). You may need to break the inheritance rules to get it to be modifyable. 0 Tabasco OP Chris65555 Jan 12, 2012 at 12:17 UTC As Scott said, It sounds like a security problem. Make sure all folders are inheriting the correct permissions with the sub folders, i have seen this problem a few times before, it may even be just that the user cant modify the folder but has write access... right click the folder, properties, and security. 0 Jalapeno OP BBKing2010 Jan 12, 2012 at 12:25 UTC If security issue, why would he still be able to accomplish the exact same thing if he just changed

Can't rename new folders in Windows XP Discussion in 'Windows XP' started by PurpleHelen, Feb https://forums.techguy.org/threads/cant-rename-new-folders-in-windows-xp.982158/ 22, 2011. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement PurpleHelen Thread Starter Joined: Feb 8, 2010 Messages: 16 Trying to sort out a problem on hubbie's PC. He claims he has not done/changed anything (!) but now can't rename new folders. You can create a new folder OK in Windows Explorer (XP), but when you right click on the name of a new folder, the usual "rename" option windows xp just does not appear, and it is also not possible to click on the name and change it, as you normally can. I've tried making sure the folder is not "read only", but am struggling to think what else might have happened to cause this. Any bright ideas out there gratefully received! Jack Hackett, Feb 24, 2011 #3 PurpleHelen Thread Starter Joined: Feb 8, 2010 Messages: 16 Hi Guys - thanks for the suggestions, but it is still a problem. F2 does nothing, and the thread didn't help. We are not getting any error message, it is just that when you right click on a folder name, the "rename" option is just not in the drop-down list. It's not greyed out or anything like that, it just isn't there! The other option, of clicking on the folder name and editing it, doesn't work either. I'm baffled! Helen. Can you rename anything at all, or is it just New Folders that you are having issue with? are these New Folders on the Desktop?
