If you find yourself in that scenario, the information in "Practice Safe Warez" may seem of limited help to you when your Product Key or COA sticker is for an OEM-specific copy of Windows (as such product keys may not work with the MSDN installation ISOs). Two years of successfully installing/using Windows 2000 as guest O/S, first time attempting to use XP as guest O/S.In attempting to windows xp install the O/S, I am at the screen where the product ID must be entered. I have entered three different (known good) corporate serial numbers, and none of them will work. I have also brought my personal XP Pro OEM disk from home and attempted to use the S/N that came with that disk (just to see windows xp pro if there was any difference). In all cases, I received the same error message: "The Product ID you entered is not valid."I know that all of these S/Ns are valid (and as I said above, legitimate/not pirated). I have used at least two of them successfully before in clean O/S installs to non-virtual disks with no difficulty, so to my way of thinking the pointer seems to be some interaction between XP and VMWare. Does anyone have any insight on this problem? 3243Views Tags: none (add) windows_xpContent tagged with windows_xp, installContent tagged with install, windowsContent tagged with windows, xpContent tagged with xp, workstationContent tagged with workstation, 5.0Content tagged with 5.0 This content has been marked as final.
