harddrive with NTFS, windows copied the setup files to the HD, windows rebooted the pc and went to the installation, then at the installation screen, I get the following error message- ********** Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. A component's file does not match the verification information present on the component manifest. ********** Reading the error log, it reads: ********** Error: SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest or policy getlogicalprocessorinformation kernel32.dll windows xp file "D:\1386\asms\10\MSFT\Window\GDIPLUS.MAN" on line 4. Unfortunately, right after I got the error message, I had to leave the house shortly for vacation. So I took the notes, powered down the PC, and left. Last night I returned home, with intentions to try installing Windows once agian. I reformatted the drive agian, same thing happens, gets to the same point, then same error message. Ive retried it 5 times, still no luck. Ive searched all over the database on Ms's support site, cant seem to come accross anything. I have no idea where to go now. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch in advance. -Dan #1 love2skate824, Aug 31, 2006 Lord Evermore Diamond Member Joined: Oct 10, 1999 Messages: 9,558 Likes Received: 0 Are you using a Genuine Windows CD? If you're attempting to launch the most recent versions of Skype on Windows XP, you might see an error reading "Failed to get proc address for GetLogicalProcessorInformation (KERNEL32.dll)". If you're seeing https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/windows-xp-sp2-install-fatal-error.1926548/ this error, it's because your installation of Windows XPisn't running the most recent Service Pack (SP3) from Microsoft. To fix this error, you'll need to get SP3 for Windows XP. The easiest way to get SP3 is to turn on Automatic Updates in Windows. You can also install SP3 by using Windows Update at the Windows website. After you've updated Windows XP to SP3, https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12388/why-am-i-getting-a-fatal-error-kernel32-dll-when-i-try-to-launch-skype Skype will launch normally. Note: If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP, there is no SP3; SP2 is the latest service pack for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. The procedure for updating to SP2 is the same as outlined above.
