Luckily I had my Jasper 256MB Jtag Xbox 360 unplugged from the power. Well it turns out that I wasn't so lucky, because I had left the Ethernet cord plugged in.When I turned out the Xbox, I got the one red light and error code E76 Ethernet Error. After reading through these forumshttp://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=689249,I figured out that the likely cause was the Ethernet http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?/topic/722870-e76-ethernet-error-fixed-2885/ controller chip (ICS1893BFLFT) behind the Ethernet port on the motherboard, and it's damn small (about 3/4" with 48 pins). I did not see any burn marks or scoring on the chip, but I figured what have I got to lose, so I ordered some parts from Digikey:Ethernet Chip - $3.24http://search.digike...e=800-1017-1-ND10x magnifier Loupe - $1.91http://search.digike...ame=243-1021-NDChipQuik SMD Removal Kit - $13.50http://search.digike...mp;name=SMD1-NDTotal with Shipping: $28.85All you really need is the chip, but I'm definitely an amateur at soldering, so the 10x Loupe was really helpful to check the pins, and the ChipQuik removal kit made taking off the old chip easy. The ChipQuik kit comes with a coil of low temperature solder, syringe of flux, and alcohol pads to clean with. You can see several examples of ChipQuik in action on Youtube.I used a 3/16" flat solder tip with temperature set around 560 degrees F.Here's a pic of the board with the chip removed:Putting the new chip back on took a bit of work to line up the pins, and of course I used too much solder and had to solder wick a bunch back off.I hooked all the parts back up, and Success! Register to remove this ad. It's free! I know I know I know... the solution is to simply replace it with a new one... yeah been there done that... and yet here https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Xbox_360_Troubleshooting I am once again with another faulty microsoft product. I cannot warranty it as it is well out of warranty... The E76 error code from what I've read is an issue with the network controller not resetting when the console is powered xbox 360 on... Now the damn thing was working perfect the night before this code... I am wondering if anyone knows of a fix for this?? This is the Halo 3 special edition console, I don't plan on using it again since I purchased a new Halo Reach 360 Slim console, but I do want to keep it for collection purposes, and I require my collectable electronics to ALL be working.. otherwise whats the point?? Any ideas are much appriciated, it has started collecting dust xbox 360 error and that means its time to get it going again! RRoD failures don't always give the 3 red LEDs. Unless you can google some other repair, I'll bet the nut and bolt RRoD repair trick will solve it. So you are most likely correct on your diagnosis. I do get one red LED on the ring in front, for the corresponding E76 error code. I will probably do the mod, or if all else fails have the board reflowed by a friend. Thanks for the confirmation! _________________When I'm asking for a Model number, that doesn't mean I'm asking for a nude photo with your number on it Back to top bloblord5 Joined: 26 Jun 2011Posts: 1 LinkPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 7:11 am Post subject: HUH? Additionally, check the connections for the power and A/V cables to ensure that they are probably seated. Xbox 360 won't turn on¶ USB Shorted Out¶ Check the USB ports in the front (2) and back (1) of the console. If the prongs of the USB port are bent and touching the case of the port the USB will short circuit and not allow the Xbox to power on. Bad power supply¶ If your device is properly plugged in, but the power supply is hot, unplug all connections and let the components cool for at least an hour. If the problem persists after cooling the power supply, you may need to replace the power supply. Bad RF Module board¶ If the power supply is fine, the problem may be the RF Module board. If it has been damaged, you will need to replace it. Bad Motherboard¶ If the you still have the same problem after checking the above, you may have a problem with your motherboard. It is a common problem for soldered joints on the motherboard to crack. If this is the case, it is possible to solder or re-flow the connections. Disc drive won't open/close¶ Debris in disc drive¶ If your disc drive tray is stuck and will not open or close, then you have to manually eject the disc. Follow these instructions to remove the faceplate and manually eject the drive. Remove any obstructions, and plug the console back in. If the eject button still doesn't work, your disc drive may need to be replaced. Xbox 360 won't read discs¶ Scratched discs¶ Discs that are extremely scratched will not be read by the console. Put a clean, unscratched disc
