When the Xbox 360 tries to execute some bytes of whatever and whatever it tried to execute crashes without returning a distinct error code (such as E63 or E74), it displays E71 on the screen. Whatever the Xbox 360 tries to execute does not necessarily have to be valid XEX code for E71 to be displayed, but it has to be valid (and signed, if not on modified Xbox 360) for E71

I've been getting the E71 error on my xbox which xbox 360 is a hard drive related error, but the only problem is I do not have a hard drive (I bought the xbox without one, so it only has its internal memory). Whenever I try to turn it on a red dot lights up on the console and it shows "System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support" and the error code E71. When I looked it up on support.xbox.com it merely xbox 360 e71 showed that the hard drive was probably placed/installed incorrectly, however since I do not own a hard drive that didn't solve my problem. I remember last that when it was working I downloaded an update for a game and when I was done playing I turned it off only to be surprised the next day with the E71 error. I tried another "fix" in which I had to hold the sync button before turning on the console and continue holding it until it booted up (which would clear any failed updates) but that didn't work either. I suspect that a piece of hardware got damaged and I may have to replace it but since I have no idea what to do so I've avoided opening it just in case to avoid damaging it further. Answer this question I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? Yes No Voted Undo Score 2 Cancel Comments: It could be a couple things. The southbridge or gpu/cpu. I'm betting on the south bridge reflow would fix it. Try opening it and apply pressure to the southbridge if it boots up that's your issue. I would replace the thermo pasted on the GPU/cpu whil

Really, How To Fix An Xbox 360 E71, E79 Error Started by shiroDX , Jun 25 2009 06:44 PM Please log in to reply 9 replies to this topic #1 shiroDX shiroDX X-S Enthusiast Members 4 posts Posted 25 June 2009 - 06:44 PM Now I know there a few posts out there dealing with 360 E71 and E79 errors. Even less with actually ways how to fix it. Some are even trying to charge you for a book on how to fix it. Well I’m going to provide you with the actual solution (At least what worked for me) on how to resolve this error. All with out opening your 360 or having to deal with Microsoft. Please bear with me as this will get a little winded but I think it’s important you know all the details leading up to me FINALLY (I hope) getting this resolved.I have a first gen\year 360 with a Sammy M25 drive (Flashed with iXtream v1.51). Over the three years that I’ve owned it, never has it ever RROD’ed until now. The first time it happened I was trying to play a copy of Red Faction: Guerrilla. As the game started to load, it froze a bit like it was trying to do some type of update. Then when the title screen tried to load up, the colours looked a bit off and the game just hung. Strange, so I rebooted it and then to my horror a black screen with white text came up saying that there was an E79 error. After some checking up on line I found out that it was most likely caused by a dashboard error, xam.xex could not start, file system corruption OR problem with the hard drive. One of the so called solutions was to power off the 360 and hold down the sync up button (The small white one) and press the power button to turn on the console. The sync up button must stay held down until the console boots up completely. This is to clear and failed updates. Well after 10min of hold it down it wasn’t booting up at all. I powered it off and back on, RROD.I couldn’t believe it! More on line searching. Tried booting it up with out the hard drive attached, still RROD (Three red lights). Found out that I could clear all installed game updates and console cache (Does not effect game saves) by going to system, Select "memory", Press Y on the HD symbol Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,XA message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"Select YesBut I can’t even get into dashboard it just keeps RRODing. At this point all I kept finding were posts that nothing more could be done. I had to either send it off to Microsoft or open it up and hack up the x clamps or something. That’
