Get your Network Admin geek to clear 'the print queue' for that printer. The geek should know what you mean. Once the queue is cleared, then re-install the netcard, connect the cables and power up the printer. If you get the same problems, then I'm afraid it is a formatter change.RegardsTrev by unknown on Mar 15, 2007 at 1:02pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Trev,The JetDirect can cause 79 errors, so if the printer works with it removed and fails with it installed then it still might be the JetDirect. The 4050TN would have shipped with either a JetDirect 600N or 605N, I'm not sure which, it's possible that a 615N is installed. The 79 error is one of the known issues with the 615N.If the card happens to be a 615N HP is still sending free replacements. by Stephen on Mar 15, 2007 at 2:12pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I hear what you say, Stephen but...
Reset. Print a configuration page if you can, remove the Jet Direct, then power on while holding the 'GO'

button down. After display reads OFFLINE, the reset is complete. If the

error appears before a job is sent then it may be the DIMMS, try removing them to see if the hp printer support error persists. If that doesnt work try swapping the formatter PCA with another from a known good printer. (4000 and 4050 formatters are different). by unknown on Jul 20, 2004 at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/1121 3:37pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Most likely, a bad jetdirect card. After the cold reset, remove the card (with the printer off), and see if the 79 error goes away. it could also be a bad stick of memory...Email me at [emailprotected]..i have several cards and/or memory sticks for sale (fairly cheap). chris by chris on Jul 20, 2004 at http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/20860 4:03pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Guys, the cold reset thing works perfectly. I just resolved an error with the cold reset thanks to you guys. Point to note when cold resetting; Put the printer off and remove the jet direct Power the printer and Press the Go button once. Don't press and hold the Go button when the printer is starting/initializing. (This halts the initializing process and you will stay there till the second coming of Jesus if you are expecting to see something.) The panel should tell you that, configurations are being set to factory defaults, then the offline screen appears. Put the printer off and fix the jet direct back in. Power the printer and watch the 79.00fe error disappear. Can you make sure they are firmly mounted? --------------------------------------... This is from HP website Turn the printer off. Remove all communication cables so that only the power cable is connected. Remove the Jetdirect card, if installed. Remove any other accessories, such as the envelope feeder. Hold down the green "GO" button. Turn the printer on. When the words "Cold Reset" appear in the display, release the green "GO" button. When "Offline" appears in the display, press the green "GO" button. "Ready" should appear in the display. NOTE: If the words "Cold Reset" do not appear in the display, hold the "GO" button down until you hear the motors rotate. The words "Restoring Factory Settings" will appear in the display if the "Cold Reset" was performed successfully. Turn the printer off once the printer displays the “Ready” message. for the 79.00FE error as displayed on a HP 8100dn printer, however, I understand that this can also apply to the 5Si, 8000, 8150 series printers. When this error is encountered, the printer will become unresponsive, but may still be accessible via the web GUI. 79.00FE usually means a that the jet-direct card is receiving information that it cannot interpret (PDF files seem to often be the culprit). Here is some documentation to back up that claim HP's 79.00FE Troubleshooting Guide. If my quick fixes don't work, be sure to review it. Quick Solutions: 1) Turn off the HP printer. Hold down the green ‘GO' button, then power the printer back on. The moment "Cold Reset" is displayed on the printer, you may release the ‘GO' button. Wait. Printers are slow. Even if it looks like it's come back online- continue to wait. If you're lucky, this will fix your problem. 2) If it still displays the error, unplug the network connection, and repeat step 1 (power cycle with a cold reset). If the error comes back, even after you've removed network connections, then you may have a corrupted firmware, or a dying jet-direct card, refer to the HP 79.00FE Troubleshooting Guide. If the error does not return, plug the network connection back in. Within a matter of moments, you should see the 79.00 error return. In this situation, it is likely that someone has a ‘poisoned' document stuck in their printer queue. In my case, a PDF from a Gmail attachment was stuck in a Dell laptop's printer queue. Oftentimes these documents persist even after reboots, so it's important you actually examine each print queue. If you're in a large organization, tracking down the offender might be a problem- Wireshark might be a good start.
