on HP printers caused by malformed PostScript documents. Toggle the switch to the off position and COUNT to 10. Turn the printer on again and the system should be all set. If a print job of yours repeatedly causes this error, it may indicate a problem with the print job. printed through. I put in the new printer ID and sent a doc to the printer. The printer showed a Data Error of 79.00FE. I have a PDF manual on CD and found the same suggestions given by moe in 2008. I removed and cleaned the fuser because it solved my error problems before but it didn't help this time. The manuel didn't give a specific description for this error code.One thing I forgot to mention. Since the last time I printed, Apple had a HP software 79.00fe printer update that I installed. Do you think it conflicts with an eleven year old printer? If so, I don't know how to get back to the former version. I do have one Time Machine backup from before this update but don't know how to go about changing only the HP software. Maybe apple can help me. If so remove it with the power off and power on the 79.00fe printer error printer and then go to the information menu and see if you can do internal prints. If you can there is the possibility the network card has an issue. I printed a HP read me on firmware. It printed all 16 pages and then the error happened. I was about to print a configuration page and then I heard the sound of a relay and the error displayed. So it doesn't seem to be a network communication problem but could still be. I will try your suggestion in the morning but I will go back to the manual to look again at the possible causes list. It might be a hardware problem. - Joe BigBand 0 Update 2:I didn't do a good job of documenting each test. I powered down and pulled the Jet Direct card. I printed a configuration page. I can't remember for sure but I think there were times when the error happened without the card. I didn't do a cold restart. I pulled the DIMM cards on the formatter one at a time and cycled through a power cycle. When this error is encountered, the printer will become unresponsive, but may still be accessible via the web GUI. 79.00FE usually means a that the jet-direct card is receiving information that it cannot interpret (PDF files seem to often be the culprit). Here is some documentation to back up that claim HP's 79.00FE Troubleshooting Guide. If my quick fixes don't work, be sure to review it. Quick Solutions: 1) Turn off the HP printer. Hold down the green ‘GO' button, then power the printer back on. The moment "Cold Reset" is displayed on the printer, you may release the ‘GO' button. Wait. Printers are slow. Even if it looks like it's come back online- continue to wait. If you're lucky, this will fix your problem. 2) If it still displays the error, unplug the network connection, and repeat step 1 (power cycle with a cold reset). If the error comes back, even after you've removed network connections, then you may have a corrupted firmware, or a dying jet-direct card, refer to the HP 79.00FE Troubleshooting Guide. If the error does not return, plug the network connection back in. Within a matter of moments, you should see the 79.00 error return. In this situation, it is likely that someone has a ‘poisoned' document stuck in their printer queue. In my case, a PDF from a Gmail attachment was stuck in a Dell laptop's printer queue. Oftentimes these documents persist even after reboots, so it's important you actually examine each print queue. If you're in a large organization, tracking down the offender might be a problem- Wireshark might be a good start.
