79.00fe Printer Error Hp 4000

When I print some PDFs on my HP 4050 or 8000 printer, including some PDFs that I created using Adobe Distiller 5.0 using the default "Print" job option (Acrobat 4.0(PDF 1.3) Compatibility), I have the 79.00 FE PRINTER ERROR. My systems support person says that this Compatibility thing is eqivalent to PostScript Level. And our HP 8000 and HP 4050 laser printers do not support PostScript 3; they support only PostScript 2. Because I create the PDFs using 4.0 Compatibility (same as PostScript Level 4?), I am not going to be able to print them on these printers. However, they can be printed on HP 4100, which supports PostScript 3 (even though not Compatbility/PostScript 4). Now my Distiller 5.0 (presumably any higher version too) does not support anything lower than Compatibility 3.0 - it cannot create a PDF of Compatibility 2.1 for example. Now, is Adobe so stupid that it removes this PostScript 2 support from Distiller such that the PDFs it creates cannot be printed on certain printers? Any cure? Any comment? I read http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/errorcodes/h... but it does not really help. Reset. Print a configuration page if you can, remove the Jet Direct, then power on while holding the 'GO' button down. After display reads OFFLINE, the reset is complete. If the error appears before a job is sent then it may be the DIMMS, try removing them to see if the error persists. If that doesnt work try swapping the formatter PCA with another from a known good printer. (4000 and 4050 formatters are different). by unknown on Jul 20, 2004 at 3:37pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Most likely, a bad jetdirect card. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/11377-2-remove-00fe-error-message After the cold reset, remove the card (with the printer off), and see if the 79 error goes away. it could also be a bad stick of memory...Email me at [emailprotected]..i have several cards and/or memory sticks for sale (fairly cheap). chris by chris on Jul 20, 2004 at 4:03pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Guys, the cold reset thing works perfectly. I just resolved an error with http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/20860 the cold reset thanks to you guys. Point to note when cold resetting; Put the printer off and remove the jet direct Power the printer and Press the Go button once. Don't press and hold the Go button when the printer is starting/initializing. (This halts the initializing process and you will stay there till the second coming of Jesus if you are expecting to see something.) The panel should tell you that, configurations are being set to factory defaults, then the offline screen appears. Put the printer off and fix the jet direct back in. Power the printer and watch the 79.00fe error disappear. If it says 600, or 610 on it, those cards had a lot of problems. You can buy these rebuilt very resonably.
