iNotes 8.5.1 lotus inotes; dwa; thunderbird; in-line attachment; garbled; attachments; iNotes_WA_EnableViewersSupport; mail_content_disposition_type; extensions; pdf; doc; A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail Technote (troubleshooting) Problem When you try to open in-line attachments in Lotus iNotes 8.5.1, you receive the following error: "A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail". The error occurs in Full and Lite http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21659371 mode, however it opens in ultra-lite mode. The issue occurs in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. When opening the same mail in the Notes client, the mail takes a long time to open and the content is garbled. The issue is seen with text, pdf, and .doc attachments. Cause The sender had set http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21438924 a parameter in the Thunderbird client. All attachments were sent as in-line. Diagnosing the problem Looking at the page source, it was determined that the attachments had extensions of ".ee". The sender is using a Thunderbird client (2.0.0.6) to send the mail and had set the content disposition of mail to in-line: mail_content_disposition_type=0 (all attachments will be displayed as in-line). In this case, Domino was unable to handle the MIME as it is received from the sender. Resolving the problem This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# NKEY86MH9N. Workaround: If the sender of the mail changes this setting to "mail_content_disposition_type=1", the mail should be received correctly.
